SEQ: Congestion on Coronation Drive: Get me out of here!

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport commuters has again called for the re-introduction of bus lanes on Coronation drive (1).

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

"The introduction of the very welcome and much needed BUZ 444 and BUZ 412 bus services now mean more buses than ever are using Coronation Drive. We hope in time a BUZ 450 may be added to that list (2)."

"Coronation Drive is heavily used by bus traffic. Rough estimates put a bus every 2 minutes or more frequently in morning peak hour. Coronation Drive is notorious for congestion delays, which seem to be happening almost daily. TransLink's delay announcements show these delays can be 15 minutes or more (3)."

"Making full buses sit through extensive delays and congestion is not smart. Bus passengers are already at a time disadvantage relative to the car as they have to stop at many places to pick passengers up."

"Each time a bus is caught or delayed in traffic on Coronation Drive it is more time and fuel Brisbane Transport has to pay for, more disruption to scheduling and operations, all of which ultimately comes out of taxpayer and ratepayer funds. Colloquially, amongst many commuters Coronation Drive is becoming known as 'Stagnation Drive'."

"One bus is equal to 40 cars.  It is not much of a challenge to work out where the real priority must be."

"Bus priority measures along Coronation Drive such as T2/T3 lanes, exclusive bus lanes and priority at traffic lights are a no-brainer!"

"No doubt about it, not much wisdom or commonsense shining on 'Stagnation Drive' is there?"

Not too much shine on go card lite either?  Oh dear, I am not real sure about the new slogan ...  I wonder how much they paid for this slogan and campaign??
