Queensland Rail delays on radio traffic updates?

The State Government will look at including QR train information in radio traffic updates so public transport users will know ahead of time about major train delays or cancellations.

Brisbane Traffic Centre updates currently just report delays on roads and only mention train problems if they affect the road network.

But Opposition transport spokesperson Tim Nicholls says train travellers who listen to the radio at home in the morning or in the car on their way to the station, would benefit from having QR updates broadcast.

"At the moment passengers have to go through a convoluted process of turning on their computers and going to the CityTrain website, just to find out what's happening on the CityTrain network," Mr Nicholls says.

"Why make it so hard for passengers when this information can simply be broadcast over the radio?" he asked.

A spokesperson for Transport Minister John Mickel said "anything was possible" but it was up to the radio stations to use the information, even if the traffic centre provided it.

"It's all possible but the easiest thing is to go to the QR website and look at the real time information," the spokesperson said.

For information.

RAIL Back On Track is taking part in a pilot email alert service from QR Citytrain.  Available for members only.
The advantage of this is that it can be set up for specific lines.

There is also the likely development of an SMS alert service from Citytrain later this year too.

Mr Nicholl's suggestion is also useful too, particularly when major delays eg. multiple lines  and so forth.

With the new crew now qualified we would hope that cancellations would be at a minimum now.
