A few months ago I made a suggestion to QR in relation to feedback re Custom Charter that the terminology for the trains needs to be explicit.

I suggested suburban and interurban.  Interurban obviously north of Caboolture, south of Beenleigh, west of Rosewood (should that come about), suburban the suburban network as such.

There has been no official notice of referring to the system in these terms that I am aware of but I have noticed a couple of references to this terminology appearing e.g. http://www.queenslandrail.com.au/RailServices/City/Pages/PeakOn-TimeResults.aspx.

To come though possibly as flagged in the Connecting SE 2031 are

    * UrbanLink with more frequent services and higher capacity trains operating inbound of Darra, Strathpine, Loganlea, Ferny Grove, Manly, Springfield, Shorncliffe and the Airport

    * ExpressLink with high speed express services from Ipswich, Cleveland, Ormeau and Caboolture

    * CoastLink rail from Brisbane to the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast with high speed European style trains.

Why not group it all to be something like "Commuter Rail", is there a need to divide it up into separate names?

Yes, different classes of rolling stock (eg. presently IMUs compared to SMU/EMU) and operation patterns.
