New bus station at Redbank Plaza

A new bus station at Redbank Plaza Shopping Centre is set to improve bus services in the Ipswich region.

Transport Minister Rachel Nolan today announced a new $2 million bus station would replace the old bus stops on the western side of the shopping centre off Collingwood Drive.

"This new bus station at Redbank Plaza will provide additional capacity to support patronage growth and accommodate additional buses as they come online," Ms Nolan said.

The new bus station will include:

    * A new bus platform with full shelter and upgraded passenger waiting facilities
    * Upgraded pedestrian access pathways and landscaping
    * A bus turnaround facility within the shopping centre car park.

"More and more locals are jumping on board buses with almost 2.1 million trips taken in Ipswich last financial year, an eight per cent increase on the previous year," Ms Nolan said.

"We recently announced a full restructure of bus services around Ipswich to improve timetable reliability and connections.

"This new bus station and restructure of services will help provide a better bus service for Ipswich residents with more buses, more direct services, more buses running on-time and more reliable timetables."

Member for Bundamba Jo-Ann Miller said the new bus station will make catching a bus at Redbank Plaza a lot more convenient and comfortable, particularly for passengers living around Redbank, Goodna, Gailes, Riverview, Redbank Plains and Bellbird Park.

"The new bus turnaround in the shopping centre car park will reduce the distance buses currently have to travel to access the bus station and improve bus travel times after recent local road changes due to the Ipswich Motorway Upgrade Project.

"Construction will start in late January 2011 and is expected to be completed by May 2011."

:fx hopefully services will also run and be integrated with the Redbank Rail station down the road.

They've added more info about this to the TL website, including a concept design (http://www.translink.com.au/redbankplazaupgrade.php). They also make mention of the fact that they may be making changes to the local buses when it opens, although no mention of how major/minor.
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
