New bus station for Logan Central

Premier Anna Bligh has announced that catching a bus at Logan will soon be more comfortable and convenient with a new $2.2 million bus station in Logan Central.

The Premier said the new bus station will be built at Logan Central Plaza Shopping Centre to better service the growing area.

"Logan Central Plaza Shopping Centre is a key destination for bus passengers in Logan City so we want to improve the current bus stops for customers," Ms Bligh said.

"This new station will ensure we cater for passenger growth as well as new buses and routes as they come online."

Features of the new bus station will include:

Fully sheltered bus stop platforms on both sides of the road, catering for up to three buses on each side Dedicated bus lanes that allow easy access and departure for buses Signalised pedestrian crossing for safe access across Wembley Road Covered walkway access local shops Bicycle lockers and landscaping Bus lay-over areas and driver facilities.

"More and more local residents are jumping on board buses - local bus patronage grew strongly last financial year with almost 5.5 million people catching Clarks Logan City buses, up from 5.1 million the previous year," said Premier Bligh.

"We're committed to public transport and new facilities such as this bus station will make catching a bus around Logan City a lot easier, safer and more comfortable."

Member for Woodridge Desley Scott said the new bus station will make using public transport more appealing and make city-bound bus services more accessible for residents from the Logan Central and surrounding areas.

"I'm delighted that the Bligh Government is providing this modern and comfortable new station for the Logan community," Mrs Scott said.

"I'm sure that when this new bus station opens for Logan Central more and more people will choose bus travel as way to get around rather than hopping in their cars."

Transport Minister Rachel Nolan said design will be finalised by late 2010 with construction expected to begin in early 2011 and finishing mid 2011, weather permitting.

2.2. million to make waiting for the bus more attractive for that bus to simply join regular traffic and get stuck in congestion.  Bus Lanes NOW!!!!!!!!!!!

Will anything make you happy? The government is currently undertaking the SEQ HOV study to work out how and where to put in bus/HOV priority lanes and intersection treatments. Slight dissapointment in that they have said unless it is unavoidable they will NOT be taking away any lanes from car traffic, rather they will be widening the road to fit in the extra lane.
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

A bus station is good news. Hopefully it will be well connected by bus to Woodridge rail station which is only 1km or so down the road.
As for bus lanes, I think we know who has priority in Suburbia.
Pedestrians
Cyclists
Buses
The Car

Hence they are building a new lane (permanence not guaranteed though- lanes can be removed and converted to car lanes virtually overnight, Coronation Drive and Ann St as an example)

The only other thing that gets priority even close to the car is Rail (for obvious reasons) and exclusive busway.
Its just a practical reality (I wish it wasn't so), Car #1, everyone and everything else behind.

Just look at Coronation drive. More than enough lanes to poke a stick at, and no bus or transit lane.

Oh great, $2.2 million for a bus station that is NOT integrated with the Woodridge rail station several hundred metres up Wembley road.

Bus & rail competing, not integrating, yet again.  :pr

Some routes should be extended to meet train services.
For example, I would like to see Aspley 345 extended to Carseldine Station and Interchange there.
Route P344 should be abolished or folded into 343

I don't mind P344 as it's a city precincts service.  I think it has a funny route though.

Interesting idea about the 345 extending to cover (effectively) the 340 service.  I can't say anything bad about that except that it prevents extending it to Albany Creek Rd/Beckett Rd and reduces capacity on the INB + Chermside-CBD.  But the capacity reduction would occur anyway if plans to truncate the 340 at Chermside proceed.

Yes, but it's better than $2.2m for parking.
