The doors opening on their busses. I could listen to stairway to heaven before they have fully opened.

I don't get it.  ???

I think our gates are hopeless... so slow!

Don't seem any faster or slower than the magnetic gates in Melbourne or Sydney, plus you can still touch on and off and go through without needing the paddles to reset from the person in front.

I find the Perth gates are too low to the ground - you also need to present the card horizontally, which I find very awkward.

I haven't had any experience with gates outside of Brisbane, but I do love that you can just keep touching after the person in front has so the gates don't close.

Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I don't like this because it means that you have to be vigilant with your touches.... if the gate has opened and closed for you you know that you touched off successfully.

They have lasers to tell when people have walked through, I think they should start using them!

Londons gates seem to have more power:

I don't remember ever having to stop or wait for a London Underground gate to open.

But if you're the first person, you know you touched on/off as the gate opens. If you're the second person, the gate usually closes just as you get to it if you don't touch properly. A bit awkward if that situation arises but not a big deal.

When station ingress and egress is as much a capacity constraint as signalling on rail capacity, the "awkwardness" of hundreds of thousands of people individually spending an extra second or more at the gate does indeed make a big difference.

That's one way London's gates are so efficient... they handle whole train loads of passengers in minutes.

Had occasion to use both the pilot readers during the week.  They are a much better reader than the standard product.

Both readers are in excellent condition, easy to read screen and the loud beeps are clearly much more audible.

Real shame the pilot trial has hit the buffers!   :P

Standing like a lone figure from a different time .. the pilot go card readers stand tall ..  abandoned by the greater cause ..

Some pics today of the pilot reader on platform 3, apart from the condensation still standing tall!

Another adjacent reader with a readable screen ..
