Ideas proposed so far. It seems that they can be grouped into two areas:

Short, near-term ideas (more buses, bigger buses, expanded UQ Lakes, 66 + 109, 470+402)
and longer term but bigger impact ideas (Railway to UQ, Metro etc).

Metro
1. University Line Metro connecting CBD with West end, St Lucia and UQ.

Heavy Rail
1. Kenmore-Ipswich Line-St Lucia-UQ
2. Ipswich Line- St Lucia- UQ- Cross River Rail-CBD

3. Same as (2) then New Farm - Hawthorne - Cleveland Line?

Busway
1. Western Busway- St Lucia Busway- UQ

Other proposals
1. Do nothing
2. More buses, expand UQ Lakes
3. Rocket bus to Toowong
4. 66 + 109
5. 470 + 402

Any others people want to propose?

You forgot my idea of an underground APM from UQ to Toowong (assuming that the 2nd cross river rail line missed UQ).

Sorry, but heavy rail to Kenmore just ain't gonna happen. I can see another pie at 30,000ft.
Evening peak service to Enoggera* 2007 - 7tph
Evening peak service to Enoggera* 2010 - 4tph
* departures from Central between 16:30 and 17:30.

Centenary suburbs would work. Would be hard to do as it would either have to be underground again, or clearing houses which would be unpopular. Of course for things that big you would need to work out where exactly the people out there were tryign to get to. Ultimately if they're all going to the CBD, wouldn't it be faster for them to just continue using the Ipswich line?

I don't know if it's as unlikely as you are suggesting, although I agree that the Kenmore part is the part of my suggestion with the worst bang/buck.  Would serving the Centenary suburbs be any better?   It does involve another river crossing.

If you lop off the Kenmore part and do as the ICRCS suggests for the 2026 tunnel in the sense of connecting Indro & West End, but instead going via St Lucia & UQ and then as per my previous suggestion, that would mean a slightly longer tunnel, but far superior bang.

The Ipswich line doesn't really serve the Centenary suburbs north of Darra/Ipswich motorway at least.

Added.  :)

Fast fact: UQ is the second most traveled to destination after the CBD.

Disadvantage though: High impact on UQ and the head honchos might not like any interference with the campus.

I can see there being some disruption with the construction. But the way I see the busway being built, it goes from its existing location, straight towards the Main refec/schonell theatre building and jsut tunnels straight into the hill there. Not too much land take. Would have to be an interesting design though, as I know that the current design of the area has the field next to the bus station used so that if the lakes flood the water is directed back to the river across that field.

Even with these disruptions though, they get all the benefits of better access for their students plus reduced cars trying to park on campus.

As an aside, currently in the timetables the 109 takes 17 minutes from the city to UQ Lakes, where as the 412 is between 18 and 21 minutes. If the busway was extented I can't see a bus driving through it taking more than say 2 minutes? Could this then lead to the 412 being abolished? Or perhaps the route changed to no longer go to Chancellors place. I think the 402 should remain to give access to Toowong, but a full route from UQ to the city via Coro drive wouldn't really be needed. 402 would need to become more frequent than it currently is though. Although the 109's capacity would have to be seriously ramped up in that case. Shove most of the ex-412 buses onto the 109? Would you then change the 411 express to run via the busway too?

The 412 & 411 are also for service to St Lucia.

All that needs to be done is to put a link from the bus way onto college road the costs would be minimal.
"Where else but Queensland?"

Obviously some of the posts in this thread have overlooked the simple fact that less than halh of the passengers on these services do the complete journey, if your suggestions are taken up these commuters would be effectively disadvantaged.

Which services?

For the record, I was just chucking out ideas, I expected others to state opinions and ideas as to why they were or were not good ones.

Interesting the new buses announcement- none for this line...
