Queensland:  Call for Free Public Transport for Seniors on Sundays

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport has called for free public transport for Senior Citizens on Sundays.

?The Victorian Government decided to give free public transport on Sundays to retired Senior Card Holders from August 2006 (reference 1).  Public transport has some slack on Sundays, and it will be no additional load for our public transport services generally to make this service available.  It will assist our Senior citizens to get out and about and have more healthy life styles, and also help them make ends meet.?

?RAIL Back On Track calls for the Queensland State Government to introduce free public transport to retired Seniors in Queensland.?

?I recently visited Melbourne and many senior citizens commented on how useful it was to be able to get out and about on Sundays at no cost.?

?It is time the Queensland Government started to focus on positive transport policies, pro-active and pace setting. The present transport catch-up and patch-it policies have failed our communities,? said Robert Dow, spokesman for RAIL Back On Track.
