6 car set could be accommodated in the Ipswich workshops but they would probably have to spend $10 million or more equiping the workshops to do the work

It was built in pieces (1 car at a time) then sealed and shunted outside. Testing was also done outside due to not requiring overhead. Don't get me started on those pieces of crap either. Downer are only one step above Bombardier really.

Is the fact that QR staff did not meet NGR train at Domestic and International Airport stations because that section of Airport Line is privately owned?

InclusionMoves

Stillwater YES. Painful to try and get those two to cooperate.

There was a dewirement last evening between Central and Roma St (down sub) involving a NGR.

Dewirements happen from time to time, but it has been suggested that this is the 3rd or 4th time that a dewirement has involved a NGR.

Anyone know anything further?

The media has been alerted to this possibility that there is a possible increased propensity for dewirements with the NGR and hopefully they might find out whether true or not.  I have planned to RTI to find out the number of times NGRs have had problems resulting in delays and cancellations, so I might just add in dewirements too.

Brisbanetimes --> NGR train at centre of network-wide delays after overhead line issues

QuoteA New Generation Rollingstock train is at the centre of the network-wide delays causing serious headaches for south-east Queensland commuters on Sunday.

Queensland Rail said an NGR train came into contact with the overhead power lines between Central and Roma Street stations at about 8.30pm on Saturday night, resulted in damage to both the train and network power supply.

QR said 1.2 kilometres of damaged overhead equipment needed to be repaired after the incident involving the Airport service and overhead lines resulted in sparks flying.

Almost 60 passengers were stranded on board the damaged NGR train for just over an hour on Saturday night before they were able to disembark.

The incident caused delays on Saturday night and they continued on Sunday, with 20-minute delays across the network and buses called in to replace affected services.

"Crews are working as quickly as possible to repair the damage and services have been restored through to Roma Street station," QR said in a statement.

"Services that would normally pass South Brisbane station on the Gold Coast, Beenleigh and Cleveland lines are being rerouted through the Tennyson loop line.

"Gold Coast and Beenleigh trains are running express from Moorooka to Roma Street stations and Cleveland trains are running express from Buranda to Roma Street, stopping only at Yeerongpilly station.

"Rail replacement buses are conveying customers wanting to access stations between Moorooka and Roma Street.

"All other services are experiencing moderate delays as they pass through the inner-city area."

QR apologised to affected customers and said it expected the repairs to be completed before the Monday morning peak hour, but vowed to keep customers informed through the TransLink website.

"Repairs are continuing today and we ask that people allow additional travel time if travelling through the inner city area," the statement read.

"Our first priority is safely repairing the damage to overhead power lines and restoring full services for our customers. Investigations will be undertaken to determine the cause of the issue."

Just spoke with a journalist who said Queensland Rail have said that NGRs have not been previously involved with any dewirements.
They (QR) are still not calling this a dewirement, but does appear to be one according to some sources.

Queensland Rail

Statement on overhead power issue through inner city

At 8.28pm last night (Saturday 7 July), we experienced an overhead power issue through the inner city area.

On inspection, electrical contact between a New Generation Rollingstock (NGR) train and the overhead powerlines resulted in  damage to the train and power supply.  Works are now underway to move the train and repair 1200 metres of damaged overhead equipment.

As a result, buses were immediately arranged to replace trains between Bowen Hills, South Brisbane and Corinda stations.

Crews are working as quickly as possible to repair the damage and services have been restored through to Roma Street station.

Services that would normally pass South Brisbane station on the Gold Coast, Beenleigh and Cleveland lines are being rerouted through the Tennyson loop line. Gold Coast and Beenleigh trains are running express from Moorooka to Roma Street stations and Cleveland trains are running express from Buranda to Roma Street, stopping only at Yeerongpilly station. Rail replacement buses are conveying customers wanting to access stations between Moorooka and Roma Street.

All other services are experiencing moderate delays as they pass through the inner city area.

We apologise to our customers who have been impacted by this issue.  Repairs are continuing today and we ask that people allow additional travel time if travelling through the inner city area.  At this stage, full services are expected to be restored for tomorrow's morning peak period and we will keep our customers updated as repairs continue.

Our first priority is safely repairing the damage to overhead power lines and restoring full services for our customers.  Investigations will be undertaken to determine the cause of the issue.

We thank customers for their patience and encourage them to visit www.translink.com.au before travelling today for service updates.

There have been 2 previous line issues when a NGR was in the vicinity at the time. One at Kuraby I think it was and the other around Helensvale. Make your own conclusions.

ozbob

Any idea of the dates of the previous line issues?

Seems a bit of hocus pocus going on somewhere hey?

Understand the train was NGR 722 and is being towed to Wulkuraka now.

I am sickened by the waste of money on inferior quality and/or proper suitability of the NGRs.  Resources are SCARCE and TMR, QR or whichever inept orgnaisation is frittering away money like there is no tomorrow.  I'm calling for salary and bonus cuts across the board for these lame-brained idiots!

I have been advised that NGRs will be further expanding their revenue runs next week.

One service per day to Northgate 3.44pm Roma Street > Northgate, Mon <> Thu

Fri 4.11pm Roma St > Northgate.

In time the number of services will increase.

On a related note, 717 have been sighted on test runs between Caboolture and Nambour throughout the week.  728 was also sighted north of Cab, but not sure if on test duties as well.

Believe there is a 30 point plan that has yet to go before cabinet for approval before anything might commence and there is the $10 million extension of the sheds ate Downer's Marybrough plant to be built so they can do the modifications and so far no start on the foundations for these extensions so probably nothing will get started before the end of the year at the earliest.

Real shame the ' 30 point plan ' was not implemented in 2015 hey?   ::)

What happened on the 7th July ?  NGR involved in a dewirement ?

Good Morning,

Nearly a month now since the incident where a New Generation Rollingstock train came in contact with overhead wires near Central Station ( Statement on overhead power issue through inner city  https://www.queenslandrail.com.au/about%20us/Media%20Centre/Media%20Releases/Pages/Statement-on-overhead-power-issue-through-inner-city.aspx ).

What happened?  Is there any update on the ' investigations ' please?

The travelling public wants to know thank you.

NGR train seen heading south through Cooroy railway station at noon today, Friday.  The destination shown was 'Santa's Express'.  Does this mean that NGRs operating the Gympielander service to Gympie North and back will be QR'S Christmas present to the people of the Sunshine Coast and Gympie?  The northbound ICE Gympielander was delayed a few minutes while the two trains crossed.

JustSomeTrainGuy

Slightly off topic; Would this mean that the onboard voice announcement would say "This is a Santa's Express train, stopping all stations" to an empty train? Or is this turned off for non revenue services?

All systems are tested on all corridors before they enter service just to fix any little bugs in the vas and gps plus doors and things plus the do train crew training at the same time

Doubt it. Afaik NGRs aren't currently fitted with ATP. Won't be running to Gympie until ETCS is fitted.

No auto announcements are made using 'special' train numbers.
