Yes they did. Last week at the opening I asked how the trains are going to be delivered and he said that they were going to get them hauled in by diesel. But didnt realise all assembled like that. Thought the carriages would be conveyed on freight wagons.

Media Statements
Minister for Transport and the Commonwealth Games
The Honourable Stirling Hinchliffe
Friday, February 19, 2016

New generation train connected and ready to roll

The first New Generation Rollingstock train has rolled through Brisbane's rail network today to commence its extensive testing journey so it can pass inspection and become a commuter passenger train later this year.

Minister for Transport Stirling Hinchliffe said first train in South East Queensland's new flagship fleet arrived in the Port of Brisbane on Monday and would move to the purpose-built Wulkuraka Maintenance Centre, west of Ipswich, to continue its extensive testing regime to meet operational and safety standards in readiness for passengers.

"Over next three years 75 six-car train sets will be delivered to the Port of Brisbane and gradually rolled out onto the South East Queensland passenger rail network," Mr Hinchliffe said.

"Technical specialists from NGR train builder Bombardier Transportation connected six cars of the new train so it could be hauled to its new home.

"Before being moved, the train had to undergo a series of safety tests which included having its air-hose pressure and brakes tested ready for it to be hauled by diesel locomotives.

"Once the train arrives at Wulkuraka it will continue its extensive testing regime to meet Queensland Rail operational and safety standards in readiness for passengers."

Mr Hinchliffe said the NGR train's operational and passenger comfort features including the seats, endurance of the door system, and the dynamic performance of the braking and traction systems would be tested.

"One of the most important elements of the trains is the 'full-load capacity' braking system test to meet Australian standards under a range of environmental conditions and speeds," Mr Hinchliffe said.

The first NGR train is expected to enter service on the South East Queensland passenger rail in the second half of this year.

Hi. Dumb question - these are six car trains right? Are the fully walk through or are they 2 x 3 carriage units??

Fully open with the toilet in either the third or fourth car depending on direction of travel.

With 701 now in the country for around four weeks, are we expecting 702 etc to start to show up soon, or will there be a lag until 701 has passed all the testing?

I heard from secuirty on the train the other day that a NGR train will be showcased in conjunction with the MBRL opening day. Then transferred to the Airport Gold Coast Line

Other discussions and various sources across the transport forums are saying that the initial NGR services would be on the Ipswich-Caboolture/Nambour line due to the depot based in Wulkuraka.

The 2nd train (702) may make it's way on the Airport-Gold Coast line by then?

Quote from: ozbob on May 16, 2016, 03:37:41 AMI have also heard some issues (unsubstantiated but would not be surprised) with the NGR trains as well.  Thanks again LNP!

That exact topic came up during a chinwag at the Model Train Show the other weekend. Apparently they "need a fair bit of work".

Is it  a case that we bought the new rolling stock 'on the cheap', or is this to be seen as part of the contract process, involving delivery of a prototype for evaluation (with some faults) that then dictates the remainder of the order being produced with the faults ironed out?

ozbob

' on the cheap ' is most certainly a factor ... the first unit is always a pilot and will have issues,  but what I have heard is very concerning ...

Is it bad enough that we should consider an emergency order of something from a local builder, like UGL broadmeadow, edi maryborough etc.
Possibly time to start thinking about training a few drivers and guards and reinstating the 2000's and the SX set?

Oh.  Bugger. More incompetence?  :frs:

Another 10 sets of 260's from Maryborough would make a good stop gap, they could be built as semi permanently coupled six car sets and still retain the ability to MU with the existing 260 series units.

260's are pretty old technologically.   My preference if we went down that path is for the imu160 variant having it as a 6 car semi permanent set, wouldn't require too much effort to convert one driving end into a walkthrough carriage.  Simply because that would ease the scheduling strain for toilet equipped trains for the sunny coast and a lesser extent gold coast.   I would couple this with reinstating some 2000 class railmotors for revenue service for the rosewood shuttle at least during the peak.

Free up one extra EMU for work elsewhere.

ozbob

^ I was under the impression the 160s and 260s are much the same as far as electrics systems etc. gearing being the main difference.
