Is it a bit odd that with so few left to be delivered, that the 4.47pm central to Cleveland has been an EMU the last week or two when it was one of the first Cleveland Line services to be "NGR'd"?

A few odd-ball GC services have been IMU or IMU/SMU hybrided once more since the July 29 timetables has come into affect.

On the other hand the Ipswich/Caboolture corridor had their NGR operations increased, the only differences on the screen is the Caboolture/Nambour trains aren't 'NGR'ed" yet, or the Caboolture IMU/SMU hybrid or IMU trains that is rostered to operate to Nambour later in the day.

Given they aren't replacing 100% of the fleet I'm not sure what the concern is.

There are platform curvature issues arising from the guard being at the bum end of the train at Gaythorne, they are fixable but given they don't need these to operate to Ferny Grove it wouldn't be that much of a priority.

Beenleigh-Ferny Grove corridor is likely down on priority will be among the last corridors to receive the NGRs from memory.

The Nambour line (part of the Sunshine Coast Line), despite the Eudlo short plaform situation and a few unattended stations, is currently tipped to get the NGRs ahead of the Beenleigh/Ferny Grove corridor it due to the Woombye stabling (which is currently used to store withdrawn EMUs) with a date of "sometime late 2019".

The lines that WONT be getting the NGRs is Rosewood corridor (due to a majority of platforms west of Ipswich being short platform) and the  Gympie North lines (due to ATP safeworking requirements - only approved non ATP units allowed to operate north of Nambour in revenue service are the 100/120 class IMUs)

Thanks. It is an operational concern rather than a case of "Iwantanewtrainonmylineitis". It means that if services need to be re-assigned destinations due to operational reasons, the NGRs, which are now a large proportion if services on the suburban tracks cannot be re-assigned to run to Ferny Grove.

SurfRail

^ I do actually agree, but in practice it's unlikely to be a big deal.

If they had built the Y-link from Mayne like they originally intended it would be even less of an issue since they could scramble a fresh turnout of a non-NGR train to the city or the FG end of the line easily.

Gaythorne really is in a poor spot that can't be redeemed.  My recommendation would be:
- close and demolish
- raise the level of the track bed approaching the bridge over Pickering St so it can be replaced with one built to a higher clearance
- resume all the land between the railway, Samford Rd and Bere St
- build a station with nice ruler straight platforms, potentially have a resi development attached to it with basement commuter parking
- rip up the old car park and expand the public park (or if commuter parking cannot be provisioned on the new site just leave it there)

All of that would also make the station's catchment bigger since it wouldn't be up against the barracks and a public park on one side.

How is there still EMU's in revenue service? There's more 6 car NGR's in service than 6 car EMU sets. Are the SMU's dying now too?

ozbob

^ EMUs will be running for a while yet.  Don't forget the rectification program for the NGRs will start soon, so they probably want some reserve until that is well advanced.  I seem to recall that they will be running until sometime in 2022?

Appears that NGR 701 is not the original NGR 701.   Sources suggest 701 is actually original 770, 770 is another renumbered unit.

Waiting for final confirmation.
