^^I like the asymmetrical door design. Anything creative to prevent people from crowding near doors unnecessarily.

I don't understand why the NGRs don't have flip up seats at each end of the train near the driver cabin and the end doors? On other trains this is an ideal position for bikes.

It just seems odd that no-one else has seen it in service here. Maybe it's just always where I'm not or something happened while testing on one of the lines without ngrs at the time idk

By what i've been told, don't expect it in service soon. It has some equipment on it that needs training etc on before going in to service.

Does it have equipment on it that is different to other sets?

Not sure. All I heard was it needed extra crew training, so doubt ETCS since it isn't installed anywhere yet is it?

This NGR was terrible today in respect to cleanliness. Roma Street to Shorncliffe.

Has anyone got or seen any pictures of the closed gangway doors. I'm still curious as to their use? I missed them being closed once when the unit powercycled at Shorncliffe after a technical issue. The fact that they have large buttons desgined for public use make me wonder if they had plans to use them.

Means carriages can still be locked off down the line, mechanical issues or when they are expanded to 9 car sets.

All,

702,731,759 now in service

Noted: 702 has is in the aboriginal train wrap

Andrew

Just had 702 on my train home. It still appears to be in original configuration with only one toilet.

Does this mean all the 70x's will get the wrap?
It'll be odd having 702, 704, 705, 706 in the aboriginal wrap but not 703

Who wants to put a wager on all 75 NGRs being in service before the Sunshine Coast/Nambour, Ferny Grove and Beenleigh line services get revenue NGR services.

SC issues would be the procedures at the non-attended stations north of Landsborough (I would assume they would probably adopt the same procedures as Dakabin on the Caboolture services and the Doomben line stations) and also the procedures for Eudlo as that's only a 3-car station.

FG/Beenleigh (except for Altandi/Loganlea) has some curved stations in addition to a number of unattended stations south of Park Road.

Elimbah and Beerburrum are all high-level straight platforms (since 2009) that should be able to accomodate the NGRs with the guards using the camera and walking up where necessary.

As we know the Gympie North runs won't be getting NGRs (due to ATP requirements) and scuttlebutt going around is that all Rosewood revenue services (shuttles & peak directs) won't be getting NGRs either due to the short platforms at the majority of stations beyond Ipswich.
Rgds,
Arnz

Unless stated otherwise, Opinions stated in my posts are those of my own view only.

aldonius

Arnz - I wouldn't bet against you there!

If the curve at Gaythorne station is what's keeping the NGRs off the Ferny Grove line, then they'll stay off for a long time yet. That's not something that can be fixed without re-aligning the entire station and its surrounds. (That's not to say it shouldn't eventually be done, but it's not in any public plans I've seen.)

At Central, NGR 743 arrived at platform 6 for Redcliffe, the scream of the brakes was the LOUD. Worst I have heard.

I think I need ear protection 🙄

This cannot be good!

717 arrived on the Ippy, bit of a squeal but nothing like 743!

I have noticed that too lately the screeching of the brakes and wheels along the tracks at Roma Street. Very irritating.

It's not too bad when sitting inside the train as it's insulated. But when on the platform.....

New Generation Rollingstock - loud squealing noises when braking

17th July 2019

Good Morning,

Many passengers have noticed now for a while the varying level of squealing noise emanating from New Generation Rollingstock (NGR) trains as they brake. There is also wheel squeal on curves, but the braking squeal seems to be more of an issue.

For example:

Hi there. Just wondering if anything is going to be done about the excruciating noise from the brakes on the new rolling stock. Depending on where you sit, it is actually unbearable at times. Thanks.

In enclosed stations this noise is magnified, and sometimes very uncomfortable and possibly reaches unsafe levels. Passengers on board the trains tend to be insulated from the noise to a degree, but it depends on sitting location in carriages.  Passengers on platforms are directly exposed to this high level noise.

Yesterday around 12.20pm I was waiting at platform 5 Central for the Ipswich service ( https://railbotforum.org/mbs/index.php?topic=3706.msg224665#msg224665 ).  NGR 743 arrived at platform 6 bound for Kippa-Ring.  The braking squeal from this train was the loudest I have ever heard, and I thought ' I need ear protection ', similar to what we used on the rifle range in my digger days, it was that bad.  NGR 717 subsequently arrived at platform 5 for the Ipswich service, it too squealed as brakes applied but it was at a much lower level compared to NGR 743.

This constant squealing I don't think is a design feature.  What is being done to resolve it please?

Best wishes,

Robert

Been some good feedback on this post.  Lot of interest.  I am not sure what they can do about it but seriously, 30 years of squealing trains is not a good outcome.
