A TRAIN derailment overnight is expected to cause delays on the coal line over coming days, Queensland Rail says.
About 1.40am a Pacific National train derailed between Wycarbah and Warren about 40km from Rockhampton in the Blackwater coal system.

No one was injured in the incident that saw two locomotives and a number of coal wagons derailed.

In a statement, Queensland Rail coal network group general manager said he was assessing the extent of the damage.

"The initial assessment indicates that the track has been badly damaged and that overhead lines are down in some places,'' he said.

"We don't expect to start the recovery operation until tomorrow because of heavy rain in the area.

"QR crews will be working hard to repair the line and reopen it as soon as it is safe to do so.''

He said the line was unlikely to be open before the weekend and the QR was talking to customers about expected delays.

The incident is being investigated.
