Go Card claim is Bligh spin at its worst

Tuesday, 5 January 2010

Claims commuters are 'embracing' higher fares for a substandard transport system shows the Minister for Transport is completely out of touch with her portfolio, LNP Transport spokeswoman Fiona Simpson said today.

"Minister Nolan's statement reminds me of the Iraqi Information Minister who kept denying there was a war as the bombs rained down.

"Of course there was a record number of gocards were issued yesterday — Bligh and the Labor Government blackmailed commuters into buying one.

"To claim that 'commuters were embracing the attractive new pricing incentives of the paperless public transport system' is Bligh Labor Government spin at its absolute worse.

"Faced with massive fare hikes commuters are simply electing for the most cost effective method and for some that means abandoning the public transport system altogether and getting back into their car."
Half baked projects, have long term consequences ...

This is actually reminiscent of when they removed 10 trippers from sale for buses - the Minister was proudly announcing such a fantastic uptake of the Gocard.....completely missing the point that a lot of people had little alternative.

And the merry-go-round continues.
