Art on show at Wooloowin Rail Station

Wooloowin Rail Station has been transformed with a series of colourful artworks that were unveiled today by John Mickel Minister for Transport.

The Minister was joined by a group of teachers, students, participants and the artist to unveil the works in a celebration at the station which will also feature musical performances by students involved in the artworks.

The QR project featuring nine paintings involved artist Frances Rowland Wregg working with students from the Wooloowin Primary School, the Holy Cross Primary School and the Mercy Centre to come up with the bright and colourful images.

This the 40th project is one of the positive pARTnerships projects being rolled out by QR across the Citytrain network.

Mr John Mickel said the beautification of stations gives the community a better sense of ownership and pride in their local infrastructure.

"We hope also that by placing colourful images at Citytrain stations, it helps reduce the level of graffiti.

"QR spends more than $2 million a year cleaning up graffiti. It would be nice to think we could spend that money on paint for artworks such as these that adorn the walls of platform one at Wooloowin.

"This is about the community being proud of its local spaces and looking after them.

"Partnerships such as these between QR and the school students and members of the Mercy Centre are great for the community and I hope they continue right across south-east Queensland and further a field.

"There are hundreds of people passing through Wooloowin Station every day, now it's like walking through an open air art gallery every time you access the station," he said.
