Saw a 6 car (I think) ICE set parked at Corinda. "BRISBANE" on the desto. Anyone know what it might be doing there? Are QR considering starting up the Tennysonlander again?  :pfy:

Would be good if it did.
I saw a 6 car SMU at Yeronga with Brisbane City as its destination.

Is that the Cleveland Line 3-car service? I've seen that one leave behind passengers through South Bank, absolutely disgusting scheduling.

No, is the simple answer.

I guess with the new trains coming online 3 car sets will be a thing of the past!?

Only the EMUs and ICEs are noted to be replaced at this stage.  Saying that, the only 3-car services remaining after the NGR is delivered will likely be the Ipswich-Rosewood shuttles and the Doomben-City/Park Road off-peak services.

Coming down the flyover, looking out over the Mayne yards (still surprisingly full at 5:25 compared to 8:30).

Bright flash of light, carriage lights dim, little cloud of something observed rising from a parked train. Hopefully nothing's burnt out (or burning)!

Update: well, that road is empty now...

verbatim9

Noticed that Qr have started replacing catenary pilons between Roma Street and Milton just before the Junction to the Bridge. Does this mean an upgrade to the electrical system as well at that point?

HappyTrainGuy

The inner city overheads are all getting replaced this year.

One of the big Plasser track machines is severely derailed under the Mayne Flyover. Right hand wheels touching the inside of the left hand rail, with a decent lean. Only got a glimpse.

Lots of QR staff scratching their heads as to how to rerail

I didn't think they would be. I just thought Corinda was a strange place for an ICE to be. Is it possible the Nambour services are sent there after Roma St as there's a spare platform for them to wait at?

petey3801

It would have just been a test run after maintenance.

ICEs don't operate Brisbane-Nambour services.  Only Brisbane-Gympie North services and the (soon to be replaced) 1x AM and 1x PM counterpeak Nambour-Caboolture shuttles.

On that note, the off-peak Nambour-Roma Street IMUs sometimes occupy Platform 10 at Roma Street during turn-backs.

Still there this afternoon. Looks like a sleeper laying machine.

On/beside the track on the West side of down main,  between bridge and the twin track balloon loop that runs behind the yard.

Going to need a crane I'd say and it's in a tough spot.

They should get the crane tonight - had to get a permit to drive it in there due to the size (just under 80t crane).

Can anyone tell me why the 412 doesn't go via Roma street & King George square busway stations

#Metro

Route 66 runs via the busway though Cultural Centre to UQ Lakes.

412 runs via Coronation Drive through to UQ Chancellors place.

People at Roma St or KGS wanting to go to UQ would face having to catch a bus to UQ from both inbound OR outbound platforms.

I don't think it would be harmful, perhaps irritating.

The 412 terminus is just a few metres from the top of the escalator up from the KGS station platform, making for very easy connections from the busway. I think the 412's current route is better because from the end of Roma St it just turns right into Ann St and is then on Coronation Drive in no time. If it were to navigate the busway and Milton Road it would be a few minutes extra added to what is a very short trip.

The main reason is that KGSBS isn't really suited to terminating a bus, and to get out of KGS would require either going via QSBS and the Casino, or doing a U-turn to get out of the busway and turn right on to Ann St. The limited time savings of this route for it to use the busway just isn't worth it.

As a former regular user of the 412, the current routing is great. Inbound is a bit slow because the lights don't sync up, but outbound is really fast.
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

I was sure I saw bus turning circles installed in KGS at one or both ends of the station.

Yes, there is, with the turning circle ( called a 'Hamburger' ) at the RSS end of KGS also allowing direct access to and from Roma st and access from Turbot St.

There are, but using these where not absolutely required is something you would want to avoid (especially in peak hour) seeing that they stop the flow of buses in both directions.

The 7:08am from Landsborough to Ipswich failed at Beerwah today. The failed units were IMU160s.

For a change, it is the inbound Gympielander (7:25am ex Landsborough) to the rescue for those passengers.

RM1901 was parked up at Mayne this morning, presumably in for a service? Sitting behind an electric set on one of the tracks heading into the maintenance shed.

1530 Nambour service departed from the suburban tracks (Eastern) this afternoon and used that track pair the entire way to Northgate.

Maybe they should use it to sweep up the left behind passengers on the Ferny Grove Line?

Except it would be overcrowded with rail fans  ;D

Anyone know the story behind this?

It's a fully setup bus shelter, inside the rail corridor between Morayfield & Burpengary, near the wrecking yard about half way between stations.

Proper concrete slab and all, just missing timetables, oh and a road so that a bus can serve it too!  :bu

Hence we worked together with him as spotter to get that photo on the way back  :D

QR ballast train sitting on the Down Kippa Ring branch this morning with crew on board the 'guards carriage' they use. Was sitting underneath the future Up main bridge at Petrie.

RM1901 is no longer parked behind the Motorail carriages at Mayne.

Saw a aircraft Pilot in uniform waiting for an AirTrain at Eagle Junction this morning. He was guarenteed to "catch the train, make the plane", given he is flying it  :hg
