On my way to work today i was waiting at the lights on stafford/webster road just after 2pm only to see a Brisbane utilities truck with a trailer heading westbound run the red light just narrowly avoided getting tboned by the 325/335 (which had slammed on the brakes to prevent a big crash) going through the intersection and cars turning right onto stafford road. Stupidity at its very finest.

Quote from: HappyTrainGuy on April 16, 2013, 17:48:54 PMFirst picture has 2 empty buses to the right parked. 340 parked using bay C. 598 behind it. 330 queued waiting for the 340 to depart and I didn't catch the number on the Volvo.
Second picture has a out of service 680 parked to the side with a 333 parked infront of it waiting for its schedulled inbound run and a now out of service 370 now parked behind it. Theres a 320 at the far bay. A 598 infront and because of its positioning it blocked the 335 from getting into the bay. Not shown but happened a couple seconds later was a seperate 370 in service route now stuck in the middle of the giant mess.

See. It isn't broken......... ;D ;D ;D

Another day futher expanding on my chermside observations. The 333 bays were once again overcrowded to the point where the P332 had to circle all the way around to bay D to unload its passengers. Any bus network review seriously has to consider merging alot of these routes into one similar pattern along with modifying the stop arrangments at Chermside ie one side for inbound traffic the other side for outbound traffic.

Observed a Gaythorne-Lander special around lunchtime today. It was a special service organized to get the troops from the Enoggera Army Barracks back home after the parade. The outbound platform was absolutely packed with servicemen waiting to move off and cross Samford Rd (they were opening a gate in the fence and Police were onsite to stop traffic for the crossing) to get back to the barracks. An impressive sight.
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

In the event that peak oil hits hard I expect a branch into those barracks, or some changes at Gaythorne, to accommodate Army needs.

There used to be one, not sure when it was removed though. I'd be surprised if when the station is eventually targeted for a DDA upgrade that there isn't at the very least serious consideration given to having the pedestrian footbridge extend over Samford Rd.

At one of the recent Ferny Grove line CRG's they had a presentation on the history of the Ferny Grove line that basically explained why it is the way it is, and if it hadn't been for the barracks and their want/need for a branch, the line most likely would have followed the Kedron Brook from Alderley and gone behind what is now Brookside.

A troop train!  Yes Sir!  Been on a few myself over the years ... good on you QR and the Army.  Still a transport brain remnant left in Brisbane ...

Just did a recount....Make that 7 police officers and 9 t/o,s  :yikes:
Also noticed LOTS of broken glass on the weroona pub side of the pedestrian bridge and the elevator exit area. Passed it onto the staffer at goodna station.

Just an FYI, the police officers would most likely be from the Railway Squad division.

Ive never ever seen that much concentration before.....a lot of them are standing around twiddling thumbs inbetween trains.....must be so they can delay the trains as little as possible.....they will really kick butt fom 3pm onwards....
Re the broken glass, apparently main roads is in charge of that side of the bridge and are suppose to clean it weekly ::)

Yeah, they have a fair number of officers there so when a train turns up, all the officers get on (so there are, say, one or two Police and a couple Transits per car), checks everyone, anyone without a ticket is taken off the train and held with an officer/TO on the platform (who will start taking details) and another one or two TOs/Police officers will check the people who have gotten off the train and are heading to the exits. This way, the train is checked quickly, offenders are taken off the train, train leaves after a very short delay, offenders details are taken and fines etc. issued on the platform and they get to wait for the next train as well!
Minimum delay, maximum penalty (fine + waiting time for next train + [I imagine] ticket cost to their destination).

The Police are there as well in case they find someone who is wanted by the Police etc.

It's ok, there was an IMU on the Ferny Grove line instead. (could have been Thursday evening not Friday, but it still happened)

Generally the way of it! There is a 220 on the coast runs tonight as well, even though there are plenty of IMUs and 260s in Mayne...

Haha of course, sometimes they try to avoid wasting all the IMUs on the FG line. For instance, the other night, they paired one with an SMU so we only had one toilet not two...

Keep an eye out for the new corporate branding on the sides of the CityTrain rollingstock. They are quite large so they are hard to miss :P

SurfRail

Saw this on EMU56 and EMU60 on Monday.  The middle cars are fitted with Wifi stickers so assume that fleet-wide rollout is happening very soon.

Huh? I think you have confused the quiet carriage stickers with the wifi stickers. The quiet carriage stickers were relocated because of the large square QR stickers along with the carriage details being moved/reapplied aswell.
