I make it that the first train of the day to the Airport forms a Roma St terminator out of the airport.  Perhaps the second Airport bound train was cancelled, and this train had to form the 6am ex-Airport train to the Gold Coast?

First train to Airport makes a Roma Street train, yes. From there, it heads back to the Airport (not sure what time off-hand) and then goes to the Coast.

Hmm, I didn't know that.  I'd have thought that'd be a perfect time to swap in an IMU.  Perhaps none were available.

Yeah, things were getting pretty chaotic this morning, especially with the signal fault at Virginia/Sunshine, plus a couple other things. Another unit that came from the coast needed a fresh turn out on the way back through the City from the Airport due to something wrong with the windscreen (by memory I think this was the train in front, heading back to the coast), so this would have taken precedence, and with a shortage of crews available, not to mention a shortage of units (by mid-peak it was down to a single 3-car unit available in the yard), they just kept the EMUs going (much to the disgust of the traincrew working them to the coast, I imagine!).

On the plus side they would have enjoyed the units screaming :-r

EMU72/78 running on the Gold Coast/Airport corridor at the moment... Was due to the first Airtrain of the day failing at Roma Street at 5 this morning.
Got to Roma St and failed after that?  That's pretty unsociable.

i had that train two weeks ago (as i stated in my recent post) on a shorncliffe run and when we got to central there was about 5-6 station staff surrounding EMU 72. I thought maybe there was a fault with 72.

Hey all,

I don't know if this has been reported on any other threads, but SMU 248 has been refurbished and has been sighted doing the 10:22 CAB-IPS run with smu 226.  :bna:

In other news the Gympielander was undertaken by IMU 104-103. The ICE'S must be out of action today.

Kind reguards

I noticed a lengthy segment on 7 news last night regarding transport.  Sound was turned off but I presume fares were the major point.  Anyone see it?

If its the one I saw then they weren't even mentioned.  The blame was attributed solely to investment in roads, and Quirk complained that there had been no reduction in use (quoting only the BT figures and ignoring population figures...)

Hi guys

I was on my way to the shops at Morayfield stopped at the boomgates at about 11:07 to see an EMU (6 car) towing an IMU 100 series (6 car) back to the city. I couldn't see the number, as i was stuck behind 5 cars  :fp: . I had a theory that maybe that it was gettiing towed due to the fact that the weather had done something bad to it.

Any ideas

Stillwater

Any news on ICE's and possible refurbishment?  Our how they might be deployed in Central Qld?

petey3801

Jesse: My bet would be the IMU died at Nambour or Gympie North due to lack of overhead power and batteries died.

Stillwater: No idea, haven't heard anything more about that.

On another note, we've got some quick builders around Brisbane at the moment... Roma Street is advertising trains departing from platforms 13 and 14 on the screens tonight...

5 car ice set being towed back toward Brisbane little while ago (sorry it didn't register what the 6 car set was, that was doing the towing, kinda surprised to see dead running trains in that direction at this hour of morning)

This was sent to Translink this morning:
I have had uncomfortable rides on TransLink's busses but this morning's takes the cake.  Whoever thought the 5 across bus seats was a good idea was sold a bill of goods.  It is obvious this model bus was built by pygmies FOR pygmies, not normal Western-sized people and particularly not fat Brisbane people!  What a waste of money.  There will never be 3 people sitting in the 3 across seats as two people will have half a cheek on the divider and plenty of elbow room in between.  I was sitting on the aisle side of a two seater and the seatbelt base was pressing into my bum the whole time and now I will probably have a bruise.  I am not an overweight person.  I wear as size 12/14 and I was on top of the skinny guy next to me.  It is appalling that some of the bone headed decisions made by people who probably don't even ride the bus are an absolute waste of money and end up offering inferior service to the patrons who are paying top dollar for it!

Gee, how much coal will be hauled by a Silver Bullet the CM has used to illustrate this article: http://www.couriermail.com.au/business/rail-group-lands-longshot-coal-contract-to-surprise-of-many/story-fnefl294-1226592767400

Crikey, the bastards.  I was hoping to use that RM for the Goodna Galloper, travelling with the rest of the punters in air conditioned trains is just off.  I demand a single seat journey to everywhere you know (can the RM run up Queen St?).  Looks like the RM has been recruited to carry sacks of coal instead, they flogged off a lot of their locomotives to overseas interests so no real surprise ...   :P

Didn't note what units were driving it but on my way home from work on Friday going as my train went up the Mayne flyover, a loaded cattle train was heading onto the Ekka loop, this was a bit after 6pm IIRC.

In other news, this afternoon after I left FG station, sighted a EMU running in service to FG with the entirety of one side of the middle car covered with graffiti, also had a decent part of the next car covered too. I know there's limits to what they can do, but I would have thought they would have tried to clean it off during the day.
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

HappyTrainGuy

Depends on what was going on in the cleaning shed. Keep an eye out for EMU66. Has to be the longest time a set in revenue has had graffiti on it (Jan 2011 - top of the panels weren't cleaned due to OH&S exclusion zone). You can spot that set out in the yard from a mile away. Everytime I see it I end up saying "Still" haha.

HappyTrainGuy

SMU225/235 is on Gold Coast duties. Time to book that dentist appointment.

There was another set of 220s (at least one set) on the GC-AP corridor yesterday as well, I noticed..
