Its the same with every other station in the area. Bald Hills, Carseldine and Zillmere are all frequently used as a toilet.

Gazza

Not defending it, but this is why you unlock toilets.

mufreight

obviously the CCTV Monitors are not monitored otherwise those offending could be identified and appropiate action taken, after all is it not the purpose of all these security cameras to discourage anti social behaviour of this sort

achiruel

What do people think of Go Card activated toilets?  Even if a nominal fee were charged to used the toilet it might help cover cleaning, toilet paper etc (e.g. 50c/25c concession)?

ozbob

Up service arriving at Goodna.  Goodna has reversed platform numbering.

Wouldn't be worth it.  Just having their picture doesn't let you know where or who they are.  Except perhaps putting their picture up at the station so if they return they might be nabbed, but station staff couldn't do it.  For what, a $100 fine?

Gold Coast line and busway stations don't have this issue because they are glass and not just an opaque toilet cubicle on pulleys.

Well Simon urinating in a public place is not a public nusance offence it is a criminal offence and the fine would be considerably more than the slap on the wrist $100 that you suggest.
As for the monitoring of the cameras even if this was not done continusly the offender would be recorded and copies of photos could be run through facial recognition without human intervention because there is a high probability that the offenders would have been the perpitrators of other anti social behaviour and be recorded.
As for them being recognised they would have the time of the offence and it would be a simple matter for railway squad officers to be present at the particular locations where these acts are prevalent to identify the offenders from their CCTV images.
Catch a couple then prosecute to the maximum extent and the problem will diminish quite considerably.
Yes I agree that stations should be staffed through all operating hours and that toilets should be avaliable but the dregs of our current society seem to have no respect for anything hence the present situation.

HappyTrainGuy

Many of the dregs use them as toilets when trains aren't even running ie after midnight.

O_128

While waiting at the valley station this morning a 3 car central terminated pulled in, Counted about 75 people empty from one door and there were still people sitting on it when it left, I  say we have a long way to go before the trains are really full
"Where else but Queensland?"

New emoticon time? Just drew it in paint.
Applicable for EMUs/SMUs on the Sunshine coast too.....

Onboard IMU168 (lead car is 182) this morning on the 11:11a from Landsborough to city.  A lot more older patrons/pensioners onboard today, alongside the usual Uni students and casual workers.

Crossed with Wi fi enabled IMU177 at Beerwah, which is working the midday run.

http://www.police.qld.gov.au/News+and+Alerts/Media+Releases/2010/11/5FAQ.htm certainly seems to suggest public urination is a public nuisance offence with a $100.

You could discuss that with a magistrate and a crown prosecutor some time in court, apparently it would depend on the wording of the charge, personally I would rather that it was you arguing the case than me.

You don't just cop a $100 fine and move on, it depends on the circumstances.  You go up before the beak if, in the act of urinating, you expose body parts that are seen by blue rinse haired ladies, or children, or anyone else in the street.  Of course, if you chose to pee against a war memorial, that is a whole different kettle of fish.  Or in a food preparation area, or on the Mona Lisa.  I like that the law has so many shades of grey, with the punishment fitting the nature of the crime.  For instance, just this week we saw a woman get off murdering her husband after years of abuse at his hands.  It was not just a case of 'you have murdered someone so we will give you life', but examining all the circumstances.  Same with peeing.  What would be the situation with someone peeing in an express train where the toilets are on the blink.  A magistrate would eer on the side of leniency in that case.

Feedback received, thanks.

Regarding the network wide delays experienced on Tuesday 28 February, 2012.
Commutrers contacted me asking why other (later) train services were bypassing their own (normally express) train that morning.
The inference being that Sunshine Coast trains were given low or no priority.
I am sure there is a reasonable explanation for it.

Can anyone explain this please?

We were discussing this this morning.
6.23 am (ex Nambour) from Caboolture did not arrive until 9.00am into Central.

7.00am train ex Caboolture arrived into the city before our train.
When are they going to give priority to Sunshine Coast commuters?

Nasty scene at the touch off point between commuters and QR staff.

I still have not been reimbursed for the power outage at Central last Friday when we were unable to touch off.

Fingers crossed no carnage on the way home.

I also have received reports that differ to the media 'clamp' story.
It's hearsay as far as I am concerned.

It's the crow theory and the track maintenance crew theory?

Did the 7am train leave Caboolture before the 6:23 (scheduled) train did?  Otherwise, I'm confused.  How did they know that the 7am train arrived first, anyway?

Fares_Fair

I do not know, I would assume that the person was in communication with someone on the other train.
Just guessing though.

HappyTrainGuy

I guess it depended on the type of line you were travelling on at the time and what was still operational at Roma Street. Mains shuffled into P7,8, 10 then off to Mayne or turned back while the subs shuffled between platforms 3, 6, 7 to mayne/shuffled back. P4-5 would have stowed trains in the interm for when the line was able to be reopened.

Would need more evidence then that.  QR do keep track of trains through the train IDs that they can see at any one time on the BIG SCREEN.  There is a name for it, but I'll keep it to myself for the time being, not sure if I can give the name out.

Police were observed at Narangba station yesterday afternoon at the ungated exit.
Pax who passed through were seen to be asked and then gestured to touch off.

Approx. 8 police observed at Nambour Station on one evening this past week at around 7:00pm.

Has anyone else had the unpleasant experience of using the lifts or should I say toilets at Lawnton station.  There are a number of people with wheel chairs and prams who use these lifts and they are disgusting.  They always smell of urine, so bad at times you want to vomit, sometimes fresh urine which is a trip hazard.  They would have to be the worst on the network.  Yuk QR!

Well, we were waiting for the Caboolture train last night at Lawnton and what do I observe?... a female urinating on the city bound platform under the stairs...  ???

ozbob

Presently at Oxley rail, not many pax around.  But the 15 minute frequency is nice!

Plenty of new rail laid out, up and down subs on curve down side of the station.  Must be wearing ... those coalies  :P

I was at Northgate yesterday.  I was surprised at the amount of up/down movement in the track as the train went over.  The old wooden sleepers look like they could do with replacing as well.

I took a video - although it doesn't do it any justice.  (Watch it in full-screen and you can see it a bit better.)

To be perfectly honest I am quite surprised by how long they are taking to install concrete sleepers on the entire metropolitan network.  It will only be us and Melbourne left in the next few years with any substantial amount of timber at all.

Maybe they are having the same problem that Victoria had where people keept knicking the sleepers :P
