Special event - Brisbane International tennis

In accordance with the power afforded to it by section 47 of the Transport Operations (TransLink Transit Authority) Act 2008, by publishing this notice TransLink declares that the Brisbane International is a 'special event' for the purposes of the Act.

Now to check out the act to see if I can find out what this means?

My guess is TransLink don't want Gold Coast services stopping at Yeerongpilly and making it easy for folks ....  as happened last year?  This worked well and doesn't add any costs.

Time will tell ...  (see --> http://backontrack.org/mbs/index.php?topic=1740.0 )

Did I read that right?  The only thing this means is that they are a monopoly?  What a silly piece of legislation!  If an event organiser wants to do a better job than Translink, they aren't allowed!?

Making Gold Coast services stop at Yeerongpilly during the tournament would be far too logical for TransLink, our failing transport authority.

That appears to be subject to another section not quoted here.  But it otherwise appears silly to insist on Translink alone.

So we might get a lineup of buses instead?  Doesn't sound efficient to me.

Many people believe that the only reason the the Gold coast train stops at coopers plains rather than yerongapilly is because translink would rather tourists see a nice modern station

Others believe it was to avoid providing bus integration and encourage park and ride usage. Altandi station would be a logical choice, as it provides a convenient interchange for Griffith University and the SE Busway via Mains Road.
