Red Light Camera for Rail Crossing

I was driving down Telegraph Rd at Bald Hills/Bracken Ridge this afternoon and noticed the following:

They looked like they had only just installed the cameras in the last few days - one covering each direction across the Caboolture line.  They look like "regular" red light cameras except there's no extra pole and smaller box for the flash.

Has anyone seen anything similar anywhere else???

I did a quick bit of research and found the following quote at http://northern-times.whereilive.com.au/news/story/motorists-dicing-with-death/:

QuoteQueensland Rail statistics show the Telegraph Rd crossing at Bald Hills is the worst in the region for crashes or near misses.
Twenty-six crashes or near misses have been recorded in the past five years, compared with 10 at South Pine Rd, Strathpine, and eight at Todds Rd, Lawnton.

The new cameras follow a few months of road works at this particular intersection - they have moved the right turn from Lacey Rd into Telegraph Rd back away from the train line by 5 metres or so.

IMHO they'd be better to put the money into the overpass they've always talked about here - extending Linkfield Rd straight ahead and over the rail line to re-join Telegraph Rd.  I guess this will have to do.  It should help to make sure everyone stops at the lights and will hopefully reduce the number of incidents at this crossing.

At least now the reckless fools who continue to break the law at this location will be hit in the hip pocket. I would like to see many more rolled out across the state.

Thanks SockGap for this information.  Good news!

Never heard of a Red Light Camera for a rail crossing before!  It sounds like a good idea, but what about the boom gates?  Were people slaloming between them or something?

ozbob

Yes, something a lot of folks (including us) have been calling for.

Designed to capture those fools who keep driving through the flashing red lights and racing the boom gates.  Hopefully will be rolled out around the network.

Wow. This is the most fantastic thing! :)
I think we will see some shocking images now that we can see what really is going on!

Good news.  It's a step in the right direction for sure.
