Cleveland line - passenger load monitoring

On Tuesday 9 September, QR personnel were on board the 7.24 am from Cleveland, monitoring passenger load.  It happened to be a lovely new train which I think has more seats.  They would have observed that by Thorneside most seats were taken with a few people standing for whatever reason.  People were definitely standing by Manly station.  We hope this will assist in not scheduling peak hour pm trains that go only to Manly or Thorneside.  Glad to see QR personnel on board.  Couldn't help but notice that no one had their cellphones or iPods ringing away!  I'm waiting for the day that someone is fined "$200-$400." Yeah - they're doing their quarterly passenger load survey.  I've seen them a couple of times.  They count the number of passengers boarding and leaving - so it doesn't matter how many seats are on the train.  :)

The Thorneside - Cleveland issue is a big one.  We found out from the combined RailBOT CRG that the main limitation is the single track.  Without further duplication, services beyond Thorneside are severely restricted.

I think the current plan is to duplicate the track to cleveland and move stabling to thornside. this would allow 1 or 2 more paltforms at manly. The problem at the moment is funding aswell as the fact that a lot of the track between manly and cleveland is elevated or through bushland. I have noticed on trains i get that some mornings upto 100 people are gettign on at manly. This will get worse with 1000s of residents tipped to move into the wynnum area with the new CBD. once the CBD is finsihed then 15min frequency will be needed.

As mentioned, many trains have to terminate at Manly or Thorneside due to lack of track capacity beyond Manly.

The ICRCS states that a duplication is required between Birkdale and Wellington Point, and Ormiston to Cleveland by 2010, extra stabling at Thorneside by 2010, and 3rd platform at Manly by 2012. Unfortuntely, the Government's SEQIPP doesn't seem to have time frames anywhere near these dates. The Government seems to naively think that the Eastern Busway will take passengers away from the Cleveland Line.

They were on the 7:30am from Morningside as well this morning.  Very very full train and the lady was having trouble seeing to count.
