Works commence on North Coast platform extensions

10 August 2009

QR will extend platforms at seven stations on the North Coast line to accommodate six-carriage trains, with work due to commence at Cooran station today (Monday 10 August 2009).

Platforms will also be extended at Mooloolah, Palmwoods, Woombye, Eudlo, Eumundi and Pomona stations as part of QR?s commitment to improve services and increase safety for passengers alighting from trains.

The works are expected to cost $3 million and are scheduled for completion by the end of November 2009.

QR Passenger Executive General Manager Paul Scurrah said the work would improve access and safety for customers using stations between Landsborough and Gympie North.

?Customers using these stations currently board and disembark from the first three carriages, while the rear carriages are closed off,? Mr Scurrah said.

?Once the project is complete, it will enable passengers to use all carriages on trains.

?Extending the platforms will also reduce the length of time that trains stop at the nominated stations waiting for passengers to board.?

Train services on the North Coast line will not be affected during these works. Services will operate to the regular timetable with no disruption to passengers.

For more information about access to QR stations visit www.citytrain.com.au.

It's about flamin' time, we've been second cousins to those Gold Coast rail commuters' for years. Now all they need to do it run more rail services (north of Caboolture) with dunnies onboard.....talk about a health hazzard for us Sunshine Coasters'!!!

 >:D >:D I was certainly NOT impressed by the "everyone must move up to the first three cars only" (after Landsborough station) announcement/routine on the 5:40pm Gympie North service last Friday due to the short platforms at certain station...>:D >:D

Where have you been buddy?  This has been in place for the past few months. I would've thought you'd already know/get used to the "zero harm" arrangements by now.  >:D

I've been driving up the coast on weekends for quite a while so it came as a bit of shock.

Are the extensions to the platforms being constructed at carriage floor height as some of the stations where extensions are scheduled are definately low dating back to stram times or is it to be another pennypinching do half a job exercise.
QR seems unable to provide advice on the platform height question which has been asked a number of times over the past months.
If they are genuine with their zero harm policy these platform extensions which are mostly at unattended stations would be at carriage floor height so does anyone actualy know what height they are being constructed to?

Sunbus610

Yeah, those temporary platform extension (including the scaffolding) at those short platforms looks a shocker.

As of Saturday December 6, these platforms are still not open to the public! How much longer do we have to wait??

rob2144

Just noted at Woombye that 6 car trains can use the new platform extensions as of today

Fares_Fair

Confirmed all short platforms up to Nambour, i.e. Eudlo, Mooloolah, Palmwoods and Woombye are now 6 car capable as of this morning. No more moving to the front 3 carriages. Yay !

On a related but slightly off-topic note, 6-car IMU160s/SMU260s are able to travel north of Landsborough once again.

Previously only 3-car IMU160s/SMU260s were able to head north.

Depends on time of day, if you ask at peak, the next train is only 30 minutes ;):D

Otherwise, I'd agree with ya :P

Eudlo is still 2 cars short, cant be extended due to bridge at one end and a signal at the other that would foul the points.

Looking at the Eudlo Platform, it looks long enough for 6-cars.
