Things that could be done to improve the public persona of the trains

Apart from say the timetables and such what other visible things could be done to improve the persona of the trains to the public.

Personally I would have to say:
■Sticker Clean-up / Standardisation: Go though and remove and defaced/faded stickers to one standardised variety.
For Example: Did you know there are three different types of stickers for the fine warnings, which some trains are missing all together.
□And those stickers stuck on top of other stickers look messy, especially when they are different sizes

■Clean the interior of the trains
□Clean and polish where appropriate
For Example: The flooring near the entrances/exits and other non carpet surfaces.
□Give the carpets a good clean/vacuum occasionally
□Try to match the replacement chair parts up, with all the random ones that are around, i'm sure you could easily get at least one section of a train all matching
□Remove the graffiti where possible

■Clean up the exteriors of the trains
□Some could go for a nice wash once in awhile
□Repaint any with seriously faded paint jobs.
For example: One of the ones with nice glass etchings inside the doors had rust (possibly mud) along the silver strip under the doors)

■Clean up the stations
□Standardise the paint/colour schemes, There seems to be a really random choose between the burgundy, reds, creams and blues at the moment.
□Completely remove the graffiti, for example some stations seem to have had it removed but the residuce was left on the building so there are drip marks of the paint
□Clean the muck off the buildings
   For Example: dust, cobwebs.
I know you can't/shouldn't use water blasters atm but compressed air/air compresses clean up most things. (Although drawing in dust is fun when your waiting for a train)
□Kinda off this discussion, I would also like to see mounted recycling bins along side the fixed garbage ones since most the recycling ones are locked away when the stations are closed and this is the prime time most news papers get chucked out at various stations.

I think trains do go through a cleaning regime.  Perhaps it just isn't often enough?  Generally I don't find the cleanliness of trains a problem.  There are the occasional ones that are in need of a good clean.  They get painted as part of their maintenance schedule.  (Of course we're aware that there was a massive maintenance back-log prior to the current management taking over.)

Stations are another matter.  A number of them are looking tired and run-down.  This is something that the current management wants to address.  It was mentioned at the last Shorncliffe CRG meeting that they were establishing a cleaning crew that would go around to each station.  Hopefully we'll see some improvement here soon.

I'd like to not see broken doors, flickering lights, broken seats on trains. Working air con is also a must!

From my observations, I reckon our trains and rail infrastucture isn't all that bad compared with the rail networks of Sydney or Melbourne. Ok, they're not spotless but let's not be too harsh, besides you can't just point the finger towards QR or TRANSLink itself because in many cases it's generally a minority group to dirty, filthy, lazy feral rail commuters' that are usually the root of this problem. I've seen people at the station drop rubbish or just leave it on the seat rather than take five steps and put it in the rubbish bin near them.

I jsut wish QR could install scratch resistant windows ont he trains it is my number one most hated thing. On another note The artist who fixed up norman park should go everywhere the station looks 100 times better with the new mural.

Badly scratched windows are ugly, especially when there's a nice view outside you want to look at.

I noticed that buses have colourful liveries, but trains tend to be very bland looking.  A big silver can with yellow ends isn't very attractive.  The new IMUs and SMUs are big step in the right direction - much more interesting.  But in the end, it's all just unimportant eye candy that you won't see once inside.  It's probably not worth the extra expense to make people ride a colourful "thing".

I agree that the trains themselves are not bad at all.  The scratching of the windows $%&&# me too. A few older ones look tired but not too run down and some have been refurbished.  It really is the stations that need to improve to make the train travel experience first class.  Our stations need to overhualled so they look as stylish as the busway stations, surrounded by high density mixed use urban environment including parks, etc.  Currently they are ugly, old and surrounded by unsafe car parks.

I like some of the older stations compared to the newer ones =(

Improving passenger access by the raising of platforms when refurbishing stations would also be of benefit making trains more accesable for all thus reducing station dwell times and making them more userfriendly to the aged and disabled.
Indoorpilly saw $26 million spent in the refurbishment and provision of disability access to the platforms and despite closures of both the lines for the reconstruction the platforms were not raised.
The new number 3 platform at Oxley again was another opportunity lost which could easily have been built to carriage floor height.
One questions will the old 1 and 2 platforns at Darra be raised in their reconstruction and will the new platform be built to carriage floor height?
The argument that they can not be raised because of the platforms being on a curve and clearnces required for the operation of freight services is less than valid bearing in mind that platforms 5 and 6 at Central are at carriage floor height and are curved and freight sevices are operated through those platforms on occasion as is the Westlander which operates through platform 6 with a number of freight waggons attached to the rear of the train as a matter of course.

As far as disability access goes I as told by a station staff member that they have till 2025 to make all stations on the network wheelchair friendly. I notice at the moment at Auchenflower you use the emergency button if you need assistance up the ramp. I don't know how this goes if there is nobody at the station. Perhaps they get a staff member from the hospital to assist.
