When I passed through the CBD this afternoon (around 4.30?) there was something going on on Ann St across from City Hall with a fire truck stopped in the right hand lane with lights flashing. Traffic was back up past Central as far as I could see, though buses were getting through ok thanks to the bus lanes. Of course, due to the congestion there were a number of drivers who decided that they too were driving buses...

Bus pile up I/B from South Bank to Cultural Centre. Cause not apparent. Buses stretched back from the portal to CC.

Something needs to be done here. Head in sand stuff to continually ignore it and busway capacity generally.

I reakon they sneak them in there just to see if people are paying attention.

On a sad note though, unfortunately, this appears to have been the cause: http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/queensland/one-dead-in-sixth-floor-fire-20111115-1ngt2.html

Could be a BT school route?  Western suburbs are 7## series if I recall correctly.  One more reason why there should be no repeated route numbers anywhere on the system - all school routes can have unique 4-digit route numbers (they are supposed to be anyway and many operators have implemented this).

I second the  ::)
And add that removing the BUZ 10 minute peak frequency is one piece of the puzzle to fixing this.

O_128

I must say the staff at CC in the afternoon peak are doing an excellent job. I think one more is needed though. One of the issues I noticed on moday was buses are being held up as the bus will wait at stop 3 or 4 for someone to run up, they had there chance and someone needs to stop this as its holding every other bus up.

I went through there inbound on a 111 just before 6pm. The outbound buses were back to just about the donut between KGSBS and QSBS depending on the lights at that dodgey intersection. The inbound buses got held up a bit as well due to a bus blocking the intersection as far as I could work out. Someone from QSBS radioed all the drivers and told them to stop loading/unloading passengers in the roadway and to wait until they were at their stop.

A sizeable part of the problem is simply that the light time leading out of QSBS is just not enough.

When I went through this afternoon/evening, they appeared to have a green light but couldn't go as the buses were already queued back to the opposite side of that intersection. I doubt that is the norm though.

Buses were stopped from exiting the QSBS onto the Victoria Bridge for a lengthy amount of time, so as to allow the backlog from Adelaide street to clear. Drivers were repeatedly requested not to use the QSBS if running 'blank' as delays were quite long .. Also, a bus station officer had to stop buses from KGSBS from entering QSBS so as to keep the intersection clear..
Just to add to the mix, an emergency situation occurred on the Victoria Bridge about 6:45pm which resulted in a contraflow arrangement being put into place on the bridge. All in all, a very bad afternoon..

Heading north side swiped the portal trying to emerge from it?

The tail swing of these beasts has to be pretty nasty at that particular intersection.

No, entering from Melbourne st into the portal... The sound of crunching metal was quite loud.. The long buses don't have a problem exiting the portal..

Hit forward of the rear axle?

We're talking about a rigid tri axle aren't we?

Is that the way it usually happens?

Otto

I would assume  forward of the 2nd axle as the 2nd axle is the pivot point when turning. I can't say exactly as I was on the opposite side of the damaged bus going inbound onto Melbourne St.
