QuoteIt has come to our attention that the 391 campus shuttle service has not been running as per the published timetable.

Facilities Management has been in contact with Translink who have informed us that there was an error made in their roster service, whereby the 2009 Semester break timetable was being used instead of the agreed 2010 timetable. As of 10am today (Tuesday 29 June), Translink have organised an immediate fill-in service to enable the buses to once again run at 15 minute intervals (approximately).

We are aware that the missed services on Monday and Tuesday of this week have resulted in staff being unable to get to meetings and work on time. Facilities Management apologise for the inconvenience, stress and frustration that this has caused. Thank you to all staff who took the trouble to inform us of this issue.

What happened to the Go Between Bridge and the fancy (yet ugly) flyover reducing congestion.  What it hasn't worked?  Surely not.  It has worked everywhere else in the world....oh hang on that should be "IT HAS NEVER WORKED ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD".  Any easy mistake to make.  Pity it cost us so much.

TransLink et al. cannot expect people to shift to some imaginary alternative when this keeps happening on Coronation drive. It will only get worse as Brisbane becomes bigger.

IMHO the only buses that should be running down Coronation drive should be an articulated BUZ 444 and the BUZ 412.
There is no need for any other buses to be going down Coronation drive. They should all be re-arranged to become feeder bus services that terminate at railway stations. An interchange at Indooroopilly should be seriously looked at.

And while they are at it, throw in a few more trains on the Ipswich Line.

The South East busway is closed from the Cultural Centre to Eight Mile Plains busways stations due to a police incident.

A WOMAN is dead after driving into the wrong lane and colliding with a bus at Buranda.

Police are investigating whether heavy rain contributed to the crash, which occured about 8.40pm on Tuesday night.

A police spokesman said the woman, the sole occupant of the vehicle, may have taken a wrong turn and ended up travelling along the Buranda bus lane in the wrong direction.

The woman died at the scene.

What makes my blood boil is that the Medicial fraternity and bureaucrats are not interested in discussing dramatic ways to reduce the road toll and trauma costs.  They take a "oh well that's life approach...oh by the way we need more hospital beds and staff".  It is not sustainable and not morally right either.  The AMA should be screaming about this everyday!!!!!

So you would truncate the 411 & 417?  What about the 415?  I'd also see a need for some all stops service between Indro and the city.

In the long term, I see a need for the 444 to re-route via the Freeway and Milton Rd with a different BUZ heading Moggill-UQ.  I do not think patronage is there yet.

Chop them off! Sure we can tweak this and that, but the principle is that most of the Western Suburbs buses should get chopped into feeders and the bits left over fed back in to boost the frequency.

I would not support such a move.  Toowong-city is too short to inflict a change on pax.

#Metro

Disagree. 402 does it.
Pax will welcome the frequency boost and waiting time reduction at the bus stop to 417 (worst bus route in Brisbane award?) and 411 that can come when services are turned into feeders. 6 minutes timed interchange vs 15 min + stuck on Coro drive?

Golliwog

But the 402 isn't a standard route! It's just there to deal with uni students going from the campus to the station. And if you have the 411/417 truncate at Toowong like the 402, then in the morning peak they are going to have to cross the road at the lights, which take ages to change. There is the overpass but that takes you across to the station from which you would have to back track and cross the same intersection just on a different leg of it. Not a practical solution.
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

#Metro

#76
But there is nothing 'special' about 402. So we can't have feeder buses because people have to walk across roads?
I have done this transfer myself.

People cross the intersection all the time. There is also a pedestrian tunnel if people don't want to cross.
I recall once being stuck in a jam on Coro Drive there and it took well over 40 minutes to go from Toowong to Boomerang St. It was hell.

A proper upgrade might see the route altered to terminate in the turnaround (where 470 is) located directly next to the shopping centre, negating the need to cross any intersections. A long term solution would be to look at building a proper interchange.

:lo  :bu :bu  :bu

It is doable, practical, and takes far less time than 15+ minutes stuck on Coronation drive in full view of your destination.
Traffic on Coronation drive will only get worse with time. There is a perfectly good railway line that has absolute priority and separation; it should be used.

All the other routes in the Western Suburbs should be looked at as well. An interchange needs to go in at Indooroopilly rail station;
I took a bus trip down there a week or so ago in PM peak hour and I think it is do-able. 412 and 444 can be exempted from conversion.

If people don't want to catch a train, change to a 444 or 412.  :bo

Negative people... have a problem for every solution. Posts are commentary and are not necessarily endorsed by RAIL Back on Track or its members.

Jonno

The issue here is no bus lanes not stopping bus routes.  Each and ever main road must have a frequent service running in a dedicated and preferrably separated lane. Feeder services alone are not the answer.  We also need a network of bus routes ghat run up and down every major road interconnecting the rail and busways.

Golliwog

...I was always assuming we were talking about changing to a bus at Toowong. Changing to the train would work alright, but I can't see your change to have the 402 (what what ever else) stop in the turn around bay there working. Theres not just the traffic island but the current turning lane which is usually full of cars which would stop the bus from getting through even if there wasn't a traffic island. I doubt a keep clear zone on the turnign lane would work as theres very little space for the turning queue as is, and you would need a large space to comfortably turn a bus there.

Also, have you ever used that underpass? Last I used it it was poorly lit, full of junk and screamed "MUG ME HERE!" Its also poorly signed, I didn't even know it was there until it was shown to me.
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.

In response to Jonno, I agree. The first condition-- running buses down main roads is already satisfied, and will continue to be satisfied by keeping keeping BUZ 412 and BUZ 444 running down Coronation Drive.

The second condition -- that we have feeder buses isn't satisfied and is where PT in the Western Suburbs falls down. Even with bus lanes, the level of service will still be inferior to that of rail. Buses in bus lanes are category B level ROW, while rail with its grade separation and exclusive use is category A level ROW.

It isn't necessary to run any other routes IMHO other than the two above on Coronation Drive IMHO. This also undermines the argument that the North Link Tunnel will be needed to benefit public transport buses. Not at all.

QuoteTheres not just the traffic island but the current turning lane which is usually full of cars which would stop the bus from getting through even if there wasn't a traffic island. I doubt a keep clear zone on the turnign lane would work as theres very little space for the turning queue as is, and you would need a large space to comfortably turn a bus there.

Route 470 manages to execute this turn with minimal trouble daily. It can be done. All options have their own problems, even the status quo has problems-- add 15 minutes plus plus for being in traffic. I just think the problems of crossing a road, doing a transfer or getting a bus to do a turnaround in front of Toowong are far less than being stuck on Coronation Drive.

The bus lanes have been lobbied for and have not eventuated. Time to try another idea.
