Sunshine Coast bus services suspended Fri 27 May

No Sunshine Coast Sunbus bus services will operate on Friday 27 May due to industrial action.

Services will resume as scheduled on Saturday 28 May.

Passengers are encouraged to plan ahead:

    Make alternative travel arrangements (consider car pooling, walking or cycling)
    Parents should make alternative arrangements for students who catch Sunshine Coast Sunbus services to and from school.

Students who catch a dedicated school bus route, run by BusLink, are not affected.

Buses are delayed and being diverted due to a multi-vehicle accident at the intersection of St Pauls Terrace and Barry Parade in Fortitude Valley. Traffic on Barry Parade and St Pauls Terrace is being diverted..

All inbound and outbound buses on St Pauls Terrace at Fortitude Valley are delayed about 15 minutes at this stage.

Route 301 buses outbound are being diverted from St Pauls Terrace, right into Gotha Street, left into Wickham Terrace, left into Brookes Street, right into Markwell Street, then return to normal route. Bus stops on St Pauls Terrace between Gotha Street and Brooke Street are being missed.

Route 301 buses inbound are travelling to St Pauls Terrace, left into Barry Parade, right to continue along Barry Parade, right into Gotha Street, left into St Pauls Terrace, then continue normal route.

Guns were drawn after a dramatic police chase ended in a five-car accident and led to major traffic delays in the heart of Fortitude Valley this evening.

It is understood a driver in a dark blue four-wheel-drive was fleeing police when he drove the wrong way down Brunswick Street before crashing into several other vehicles on Barry Parade, near the intersection with St Paul's Terrace.

Witness Terry Allen said a child was in the 4WD at the time of the incident.

Centenary Hwy bus delays

400 series bus services travelling inbound via the Centenary Highway may be delayed up to 10 minutes due to a recent traffic incident near the Jindalee Bridge.

The area has been cleared and delays are subsiding.

This Sunday (19th) and the next (26th), UQ Lakes bus stop is out of action for most of the day. BCC is conducting bridge inspections and maintenance from 4.30am till 2pm. All buses will be stopping instead at stop 13/18 Annerley Rd outside the Cemetery. They have placed A-frames at each of the bus stops to this effect, although the headline on the board says nothing about a closure, just "UQ Lakes Bus Station". Pedestrians and cyclists will still be able to cross the bridge. UQ has no exams at all on these dates.

POLICE have closed roads around Pacific Fair shopping centre on the Gold Coast after a fatal crash between a motorcycle and a bus.
The motorcyclist was killed in the crash which happened at the intersection of Hooker and Sunshine boulevards at Broadbeach about 3pm.

The incident has caused traffic chaos in one of the Gold Coast's busiest areas.

THOUSANDS of school students could be left on the roadside on Thursday as a result of hastily planned industrial action by bus drivers.

Employees of Veolia Capalaba, which services 67 private and state schools, will strike for 28 hours from 4am on Thursday until 8am on Friday impacting on 91 school runs mostly in Redlands and Brisbane.

Transport Workers Union secretary Peter Biagini said the stoppage was happening because "the bus system was broken".

"Translink has outsourced public bus services to 18 companies which do not offer a standard set of fair pay and conditions," he said.

"All (bus drivers) want is a fair pay increase to keep up with the cost of living."

One bus driver said they were seeking a rise equivalent to $1 an hour.

I only found out about that strike action this afternoon from a driver friend of mine who was doing an inbound 250.  None of the drivers had been saying anything to the passengers before then, which is a bit of a worry.

He said that they would be running on a limited Sunday timetable with some possible rocket services running.  Highly dependent on Veolia getting some non union drivers rounded up.

TALKS aimed at averting strike action by Brisbane bus drivers employed by Veolia Transport tomorrow have failed.

However, company officials are hoping that further talks with Transport Workers Union officials tomorrow will prevent the strike running into a second day on Friday.

The strike will mostly affect children from 67 state and private schools in Brisbane and Redland City who use the privately-owned bus network to travel to school

A company spokeswoman said Veolia Transport was disappointed that the union did not agree to further terms offered at today's meeting but would not elaborate on what those offers were.

The spokeswoman said the industrial action would go ahead from 4am Thursday, July 21, until 8am Friday, July 22.

Parents have been advised to check with individual schools, some of which are organising charter buses for students tomorrow and Friday morning.

Bus services in both directions may be delayed up to 15 -20 minutes due to diversions on Fairfield Road at Noble Street, Fairfield. Noble Road is currently closed. 104, 105, 107, 108, 196 and school services are expected to be impacted.

The following diversion route is in place:
