"The 13.10pm route 602 northbound bus is delayed 20 minutes due to a mechanical issue.

This service is now due to arrive into Maroochydore Station 2.38pm."

First of all, since when did we start to use 24-hr time for timetables (I know this is the case for Sydney Transport timetables but never seen it used up here) and second, if you use 24 hour time, you don't need to add PM after the time.

Stick to what you know! (which clearly, isn't very much)

Recipe for Disaster
Step 1: Create a poorly designed road network (including the lack of indented bus stops, bus lanes and bus jump zones).
Step 2: Create a horrible Public Transport network which encourages people to drive (e.g. disturbingly low peak hour train frequencies for the 3rd largest region in Oceania and the lack of a "Feeder" transport network).
Step 3: Add a couple mm of rain to moisten the mixture.
Step 4: Add a little salt for seasoning and a dash of olive oil.
Step 5: Now sit back and wait for about 10 mins (in Corro Dr's case, a matter of seconds is generally all it takes) for the dish to unfold (literally and metaphorically).
And voilà, you can now admire you beautiful master piece.

Need any extra assistance in cooking this dish? The TransLink call centre is open 24/7 to answer any of your queries.

A lot of buses cancelled this morning. 13 from when I last checked, quite a few on the Northside too.

https://translink.com.au/service-updates/156121

Also, I don't think Route 111 will ever have a 25 min gap, even on a late Sunday night. Someone might want to fix that up.

Coronation Drive: 20 Minute Delays

Buses travelling inbound along Coronation Drive will experience delays of up to 20 minutes due to heavy traffic congestion.

There are no delays expected for buses travelling outbound.

========================

Totally wrong, outbound buses are delayed up to 30 minutes due to getting caught up doing their inbound runs. ::)

Bus network reform? What bus network reform? Who needs that!
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

Ok, so apparently BUZ services run every 30 mins now.

It's the simple stuff they struggle to get right.

A lot of bus delays in Noosa due to holiday traffic today.

3.03pm arriving 765 12 minutes late into varsity lakes so missed bus-rail connection for about 10+ pax.
Thankfully TL have picked up their game on this route and made it 15 minutes freq and added some fat during busy periods....goodbye clockface  :clp: :clp:

This might seem like a noob question, but in this instance, can the lights be turned on for longer at important junctions (cultural centre/Busway entry/Adelaide st@north Quay) rather than usual 3-4 buses per cycle? or does that slow down the beloved car users too much?

Cazza

^It's more to do with the timings with other intersections. Since the intersections of the Busway Portal and Melbourne/Grey St are so close together, if they are not properly synced, the will be even bigger backlogs of vehicles. But I can see where you are coming from. I am pretty sure there is a way to manually control them but it would take a lot of time and effort. It is sometimes just better to leave it and the backlog will eventually work itself out.

At that hour, the factor that limits the capacity of the busway is:
a) the Cultural Centre station itself, and
b) the Melbourne St Portal.
In particular, due to the way the signals work, any route proceeding to West End (60, 192, 196, 199), if caught in front of buses entering the SEB, this can hold up the traffic flow until the next phase (where the straight thru and right turn southbound get green). I think the main issue here was that the broken down bus would have taken out 25% of the available capacity at the station - potentially more as buses manoeuvre around the broken down bus. It's like having a broken down train occupy P2 at Central in core peak. Not the end of the world, but puts a sufficient squeeze on capacity that you'll have cascading delays.

To address the specific question - the SCATS system intelligently manages traffic queues and so forth. When you've got a broken down bus (or vehicle or anything like that), putting the traffic on a 'flush' (long green) phase will do nothing to ease the backlog, and if anything, makes it worse as it holds up flows on the cross roads.

Buses travelling in both directions through Brisbane City and the inner city suburbs will experience delays of up to 45 minutes due to heavy traffic congestion

I guess the generic warning is better than nothing.

The worst affected routes seem to be the 26* series if you check the TL twitter.......dunno what is happening out there around Rochedale but these routes(261,262,299 etc seem to constantly get 'delayed due to heavy traffic congestion'
Translink need to act on the timetables ASAP and get that extra traffic factored in.

Bus network fell apart this evening across the western suburbs... ended up catching a train home rather than trying to make use of a shambolic bus network.

Hmmm, last time I checked, the 720 doesn't actually run anymore. Might want to fix that one up so you don't confuse too many people.

Wasn't noted here (doesn't look like there was a Translink alert via twitter) but on the 3rd April, there were powerlines down on Waterworks Rd which had the road shut from Settlement Road to School Road, from at least 7pm until last service on the 385.

I was on it outbound and while there wasn't much of a delay (detour via Illowra, Payne and School Roads) it did mean that it missed the Waterworks Rd, Settlement Road stop, thought I suspect any sane driver would have just dropped people off once they'd pulled around into Illowra. Not sure what the inbound buses were doing, the inbound lanes weren't being allowed to turn into School and instead were directed down Moonmera and Bromwich - which would be a bit tight with a bus.
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I find the delays and cancellations frustrating as well. Apparently if a service is cancelled or delayed it needs to be manually communicated from BCC or other operators to Translink. If it doesn't get communicated? Translink cannot send out the notification. Be good if there was a more of an automated procedure? Maybe with Next Generation Ticketing and updates to realtime vehicle locations coordinating with TMRs server about accidents, congestion and road closures, delays and cancellations can be sent in real time?
