Bus lanes defended and highlighting the political short sightedness of removing them....sound familiar.

I think even the NRMA (NSW equivalent to RACQ) has given up on lobbying against the Harbour Bridge bus lane.  They tried a few times, but the politicians politely told them what a stupid idea it was, and that the bus lane carries more people over the bridge than all other 7 lanes combined. (tidal flow applies on the bridge, the tunnel adds 2 lanes each way.)  I guess the Captain Cook Bridge probably hasn't reached that sort of level.

There is a very good case for the Captain Cook Bridge having bus or T2 lanes. It's not necessary to wait until there are harbour bridge traffic levels or twin tunnels underneath the Captain Cook Bridge (heaven forbid) for these to come into action.

Actually, the 4 lanes Captain Cook + 3 lanes Storey + 1 lane Victoria is more than the 5 lanes Harbour Bridge (+1 bus lane), 2 lanes Harbour Tunnel is more general traffic lanes heading in to the CBD in Brisbane than in Sydney.  Heading outbound, Sydney loses its bus lane, but the bus still has a queue jump.

I think Brisbane has already reached Sydney's heights of congestion in some places.

It's time to consider a median busway for Mains Road.
Maybe not like the SE busway, but special reserved lanes in the middle of the road.
Maybe demolish the centre median. Reclaim the far right lane for a bus stop???

An interim or alternative solution would be to have extended bus lanes. Proper ones.
