So the 1.38pm bus went.  Say you just missed it, a long wait till 3.43pm hey what.  This bus is an important local coverage route, even though travels from Goodna <> Riverlink Ipswich.

Simply not good enough in the end.

^^ I think Pauline Hanson and Orange Team have just found their core issue for the Ipswich areas - bus no shows!!
None of the 2 major parties listening. People have to get to work you know?

there was a 526 cancelled this morning which did not make the twitter feed. Found out via facebook

Quoteomfg, again the morning 526 bus got canceled, i really rely on that bus to get my daughter to school so again she isn't at school,, i rang to speak to someone and he wasn't any help at all,,, and yes i understand this things happen but really why cant u guys get another bus out instead of cancelling the whole bus route.... that would be so much easier and better, i would rather my daughter be late for school then not go at all

also comment regarding the route 500 cancellations today...

Quotei am disgusted in the 500 westside bus service .today the 26th of august 2016 3 bus services were cancelled due to a mechanical issue. the buses that were cancelled were the 2.38 and 3.43 and 4.13 all departing from goodna going to riverlink .this happened around school time and kids rely on these buses to get home .i know of 3 children that were left waiting at riverview school for the buses . this is unacceptable something has to be done

Western (Ipswich & Springfield) bus region concerns

Greetings,

We have serious concerns with the reliability of buses in the Western Region (Ipswich and Springfield).

For the past few months there seems to be an increasing problem with scheduled bus services being cancelled to ' mechanical failures ' or ' operational issues '.

This is having a serious impact on public transport users who depend on the bus services for local transport and connections to and from the railway.

Yesterday there were again multiple cancellations.  The service frequency of the buses in the Western Region generally is very poor and if a service is cancelled this often means waits of up to an hour or even longer.

We documented the  multiple cancellations yesterday on our discussion forum here
> [ http://railbotforum.org/mbs/index.php?topic=2695.msg178673#msg178673 ]

Most of the cancellations are reported via https://twitter.com/TransLinkSEQ however we are not confident that all are though.

An example of a cancellation yesterday:

TransLink reported that the 2.38pm 500 inbound bus from Goodna railway station was cancelled due to a ' mechanical issue '.  This means in effect that providing the next scheduled service at 3.43pm actually turns up, then passengers may have to wait up to one hour and 55 minutes or so for the bus if they missed the 1.38pm service!  Hopeless.  It also appears that some further 500 bus services might have been cancelled which were not reported by TransLink. According to some feedback on facebook school students were again left stranded, besides passengers all over the network.

The effect of cancelling low frequency services is devastating for the passengers who depend on these services.

We have raised the issue of Western region bus unreliability with both TransLink and the Minister for Transport for a while now, only to be ignored. The cost of this ignorance will be electoral defeat.

The Member for Bundamba Mrs Jo-Ann Miller also raised Western bus issues during the recent parliamentary estimates.

Why is the Western bus region being treated so poorly?

Best wishes
Robert

QuoteWhy is the Western bus region being treated so poorly?

Because all bus regions are a privileged monopoly and TransLink will never ever cancel a contract, no matter how bad the service gets. There are no alternative companies that will be signed up. Also appears to apply in the Brisbane area.

The reasoning? *tumbleweeds*

in an ideal scenario the important cross-town/feeder routes 534/463/522 would be handed over to another operator to take some strain off westside.....

Take the off-peak 534 for example....runs on-time almost always...allowing perfect connections from browns plains/forest lake to either inala(101)/ Goodna(463) and of course springfield.......in peaks you don't even bother....

The ICC needs to be putting a lot more pressure on the government about this.

also concering that a lot of these cancelled routes pass by schools which means there is a high risk of students not being able to get home

Yes indeed.  There are number of dedicated school runs but not all students can use these.  Many do need to use normal route buses for their journeys.  There has been steady reports all year of students being left stranded out west.  I am not at liberty to give any specific details but suffice to say that there have been instances where QPS has become involved with threats to stranded students.

The authorities are well aware of this and they still fail to act. Cancellations occurring like clockwork.

There are also of course very significant impacts on folks who depend on these buses for their mobility, shopping, commuting, appointments and social reasons.

would appear the 4.42pm 502 ex riverlink was a no show either....courtesy of fbook....

Quote
Translink, you really need to work out a system for letting customers using your buses when a bus has been cancelled. A young mother with 2 young children and myself (along with a number of others) have been left at Riverlink with no notice of cancellation or extended delay on your 502 Bus Route that leaves Riverlink Shopping Centre at 4:42. Your real time app has not displayed any information either.
Something needs to be done about this issue because this has happened to myself frequently over the past 6 months, and probably countless others too. Even if you updated your real time feature more accurately, that'd be bloody fantastic.

ozbob

Thanks TB.  I have long suspected that not all  ' no-shows '  and significant ' lates ' are reported by TransLink.
Operators might not always be forthcoming.

I am going to belt this hard from here ...
