Bus delays, cancellations ...

Not sure if it was posted here, but there were big delays on Coronation Drive last night at around 6pm. Bus network in the west imploded. I've seen it worse, but hardly surprising. One car accident or stupid driver and the whole road (and bus) network collapses.

Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

Yeah it was absolutely awful, gridlock all the way back into St Lucia ... it seemed to be all due to a car crash on the Pacific Motorway southbound around Greenslopes according to 131940.qld.gov.au

Punters need better PT options (and eventually that East-West link tunnel)

I think that EW link tunnel is a bit pointless and existed only to make a neat triangle on a map. At the toowong end you've got a pretty useless catchment area due to half of it being state forest.

James

Personally I think East-West link would be really helpful. I may be biased (as I travel often to Carindale), but it saves people going from the westside to the eastside going via Coronation Drive and the Riverside Expressway, which easily takes around 15 minutes in the off-peak and a lot more in peak (vs. a tunnel which would do it in 5).

On the other hand, you'd have to be very careful where you put the entry/exit portals on the western side, otherwise you may just encourage more people to drive to UQ. One way to avoid this would be just to charge an overpriced toll to keep the Uni students out.

When will our pollies get it???

Why not improve East-West connections through a busway or light rail extension from UQ Lakes to the Ispwich line rather than spend a fortune on a road tunnel? The Tennyson line is there too. The performance of the three existing tunnels indicates to me that there is a poor case for more.

Why do those "westside to carindale" people need the time saving?.
Is there evidence that there are large numbers of people struggling with this journey on a daily basis that warrants a couple of billion?
Is it the same mindset as direct rocket buses to everywhere?

Ah, so thats why my 340 diverted out to upper roma street this morning. There was a long queue of buses waiting at Roma Street, almost backed up to the traffic lights just before that station in the inbound direction.

It isn't just that they get a time saving, it is primarily to take traffic off Coronation Drive and the Riverside Expressway. It also completes the inner ring road system which exists around Brisbane, which hence keeps cars out of the congested inner city, which will only get worse as it densifies and plays host to more office blocks etc.

The time saving is also far greater compared to the other tunnels. For the Airport Link, you can practically follow the tunnel route via surface roads, likewise for Clem7 and Legacy Way. You can't for East-West link. East-West link is really the only road in the entire TransApex plan which provides a new route for motorists, rather than just capacity and speed increases.

Gigantic BCC bus conga line running all the way from (presumably) Adelaide St all the way into Fortitude Valley (along Ann St) and as far back as James St.

Thankfully for James, he was driving, so I didn't have to attempt to use the bus network. Truly, it was a spectacular sight.

I didn't take photos because I was driving/I thought that might have been the norm. I never really drive down Ann St at peak hour unless I absolutely have to, and today was probably the first time I've absolutely had to in years.

I'm pretty sure there was some agreement with UQ when UQ Lakes was built that there could be no services through the campus to the rest of the network.

Anyone know what caused the fire alarms to go off at Queen Street Bus Station (Myer Centre) again yesterday afternoon?  They seem to be going off and causing disruption a lot more often than in the past (or it's just being reported by TransLink more often nowadays?).

for handiness it rocks...took it last week about7ish from chermside and needed to do a quick shop and make the 110...my options were:

340 and do shop at gabba.....time for shopping  5 minutes....
the 77 zipped thru from chermside to pa.hospital stop in about 20 mins...walk 100m to buranda shops.....time for shopping: 15-20mins
8) 8) 8)

only problem was there was only 1 other passenger onboard till i hopped off...

Too bad the network doesn't reflect how good a potential routes like this are.... except on those days where there are massive delays on the busways :P
