Bus delays, cancellations ...

I suppose that's true, but I'd think the empty runs would be able to route around the bridge relatively easily.

Hmm, weird that an inbound accident delays these outbound routes.

Not really. The buses have to get into the city somehow.

And herin lies the benefit of bus lanes or dedicated lanes qnd right of ways.

I would tend to agree, but thinking about it, that's perhaps also where some of the delay comes from. If they use the CCB then they get stuck in traffic, but I would think it would probably be the most direct route (correct me if I'm wrong) so if they had to go around using the busway or otherwise then it would be longer and also have the possibility of getting stuck behind buses around the stations, and also end up approaching from Victoria bridge which may not get them to the right street in the city and then having to deal with city traffic.

I definatly agree that some form of bus priority is needed.

Captain Cook Bridge and Bus lanes - no brainer.
But reclaiming lanes from the car will be like trying to take candies from babies!

Ok.  This now almost a daily occurrence and we are letting the least efficient firm of transport hold up the more efficient modes.  The refusal to put bus lanes on all major roads is just political stubbonous.  The refusal to do so just sends the message "Driving your car should be your first choice in Transport".  New World Ciry doing thing the old way.

Brisbane isn't a new world city by any measure I could imagine.

Put in a bus lane or feeder buses, or both. The problem will not go away by just ignoring it.

You are right about public transport being safer. There is something like 2 or three car accidents per week in the news.

Aren't the busways supposed to reduce such widespread impact?  What happened here?

#Metro

I suspect buses use the busway, but on the dead-run back, when not in service, they might use the counter-peak SE freeway?
Just a guess...

Yep, but the 172 for example doesn't go very near Daisy Hill, and also doesn't use the freeway.  Actually, the list includes the N200, so it seems there are a lot of errors here.

Nothing on TL website, but I expect delays to probably be announced for Coro Drive soon. Just went through outbound, theres been an accident just before the Go between bridge flyover blocking two of the 3 lanes. Looks like it will be easy to remove (2 cars rearend collision, though one car looks like it can't drive itself away), but whether they can get it done before traffic builds up too much is another question.
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Yep, Coro Drive. One major delay each week IMHO!!!
Maybe they should put a big flashy sign just before Toowong Station which flashes
"Bus users interchange @ Toowong Rail today, Delays Coro".

I'm only half serious- but I see signs around Brisbane next to the road which say "congested motorway" or something like that
for drivers. And I think, well what did they expect? It's like that every weekday afternoon!!!

For crying out loud this is beyond a joke. Every week road congestion impacts a mode of transport that is at least 40 times more efficient.  It is economic madness to keep our buses in general traffic!!! Will any politician stand up and be counted for common bloody sense!!!!!!!

Ipswich Road services got caught up in the congestion as well! A 172 and 124 were creeping s-l-o-w-l-y through a sea of cars, at least from Stanley St to O'Keefe St. Buses used the right lanes to get past (a little), but only to move left again after O'Keefe St. The right lanes started moving at this point, but the left lane was still very slow. O'Keefe St was closed except for buses, causing more congestion in Cornwall St.

After enduring all that annoying congestion, the bus's bell rail and buttons didn't work! By the time I got up and asked the driver to stop, I missed my stop and the one after. The next stop was in the middle of dark, narrow streets. Taking the long walk back out didn't feel safe or pedestrian friendly by any stretch. To be fair, it wasn't the driver's fault. But if the problem was known at the depot, there should be signs put up. I know a Westside bus that did exactly that.

The alternative to the bus lane... a rail lane as covered by WA Today 'New trains to hit tracks in March' http://www.watoday.com.au/wa-news/new-trains-to-hit-tracks-in-march-20090109-7dki.html

A lot has been said how freeway corridors are not the best places to put PT etc etc.
But freeways have a few benefits:

1. They often have a median or reserve that can be used (think Brisbane's South East Busway)
2. Great publicity- trains rush past congestion, next to motorists, sends a strong signal
3. Might have no choice, if that is where the land is, that's all there is!
4. Increases capacity of the corridor
5. Rail lanes = immune from SOV (single occupant vehicle) attack

Good luck trying to rip this up! Maybe tram lanes down Coronation Drive is what's needed!

Negative people... have a problem for every solution. Posts are commentary and are not necessarily endorsed by RAIL Back on Track or its members.
