Minister for Main Roads
The Honourable Craig Wallace
10/08/2009

Feedback sought on future Multi-Modal Transport Corridor

Sunshine Coast residents are encouraged to attend staffed public displays to give feedback on how the future Multi-Modal Transport Corridor (MMTC) should cross the Mooloolah River.

Main Roads Minister Craig Wallace said the MMTC, a transport corridor from Caloundra Road to the Sunshine Motorway, would accommodate road, rail, public transport, and pedestrian and cycle infrastructure.

"To cater for a rapidly growing Sunshine Coast region, the Bligh Government has been progressing strategic planning for the MMTC for several years," Mr Wallace said.

"The MMTC project team has sought feedback and advice from other government departments, council, community groups, and the public to try and establish the best solutions for the community.

"Following public displays in November 2008, the MMTC team has taken on-board the feedback received and incorporated this in the strategic planning.

"The overall response t o the MMTC has been positive. The community expects a sustainable transport solution for the Sunshine Coast with facilities that encourage an efficient public transport system and recognise the responsible treatment of the environment."

To keep the community informed, a planning update was recently distributed across the Coast and will be complemented by public displays.

Mr Wallace said the displays would focus on the planning for the major crossing of the Mooloolah River, between Parrearra and the Mooloolah River Interchange, as the community had raised the area as a key concern.

"Public displays will be held at Sunshine Plaza and Kawana Shoppingworld as well the Kawana and Maroochy libraries and the Sunshine Coast Regional Council's office at Caloundra," he said.

"The project team will be available to discuss the MMTC planning, including the Mooloolah River crossing at Sunshine Plaza, Kawana Shoppingworld and Lake Kawana Centre.

"I encour age all interested members of the community to get along to one of the venues and find out more about the current strategic planning, after all, we want you to have a say now for the future."

The displays at Sunshine Plaza (near Nutshack) and Kawana Shoppingworld (near Michael Hill Jeweller) will be staffed from:

    * 2pm to 6pm on 12 and 14 August
    * 4pm to 8pm on 13 August
    * 10am to 2pm on 15 August.

The Lake Kawana Centre on Sportsmans Parade, Bokarina will be staffed from:

    * 2pm to 6pm on 12, 13 and 14 August
    * 10am to 2pm on 15 August 2009.
