Yes it could start out as a busway (relatively simple and modest) and then you could lay tracks into it if you wanted to. Perth put train tracks down the Kwinana freeway in what used to be a busway and not only that they converted a bus station into a train station!
Negative people... have a problem for every solution. Posts are commentary and are not necessarily endorsed by RAIL Back on Track or its members.

The busway in this instance had been designed and constructed to allow for conversion to heavy rail as was the bus station, somewhat different to the busways that have to date been built here which are not even readily convertiable for light rail.

IIRC the South East Busway was initially designed with conversion to Light Rail in mind.  I've heard this was also the case with the other busways here, but I'm not too sure.

Getting back on-topic, a Caloundra-Maroochydore busway using the CAMCOS corridor would give the Caloundra area another trunk bus route that doesn't duplicate the existing trunk routes.  It would focus mostly on the new Kawana Town Centre and Mountain Creek educational area (TAFE, High School, etc).

I have been told there is a 2 page rail story in today's Sunshine Coast Daily, pp38-39.
Nothing found on the internet.

Not all of them though. Not sure which one wasn't, but one of the recent ones apparently isn't.

Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Considering that the government believes that the SEB will be converted to a metro while the planners are saying light rail theres already some arguments. Though all busways are designed to be converted to light rail eventually.
"Where else but Queensland?"
