Man hit by train at station

Quote
TRAINS have ground to a halt on Brisbane's northern lines after a man was hit and killed by a locomotive at Nundah station this afternoon.
A spokesman for TransLink said commuters can expect delays of at least half an hour while police investigate the incident.

Trains were stopped in both directions through the station after the man was hit about 12.15pm.

Police said his death was not suspicious.

A police spokeswoman said the incident was not considered to be suspicious at this stage, but officers were investigating the scene.

That explains why the 12:43pm Nambour train (from Roma Street) was up to 35 minutes late arriving into Caboolture Station this afternoon. Station Staff announced the delays as "technical difficulties" and apologised for the inconvenience caused..

Not sure where the unfortunate accident occurred but one would think that with 4 tracks, each one set up for bi-directional running that a limited service could run.
Even if trains did not stop at Nundah to avoid discomfort and rubber-necking, the wheels could at least have continued to turn.
Imagine if this had occurred circa 1630hrs!!

Lots of messages to commuters on the platform but really none of them provided any information which would help. No advice re length of wait or next train which is what people need to know. I got there around 1.20pm and I understand from the vast crowd that no trains had been through on platform 5 or 6 for quite a while.

I got onto the first train which arrived around 1.35pm and was around a 4 on the derwan scale leaving central. It wasn't a scheduled train and just arrived, and continued all stations to Ipswich, but no advice from the driver or guard once people were on the train even when it stopped at corinda for 5 mins for some reason ........

Communication is what people want e.g. trains delayed etc but they also need hard and fast information about timings in order to actually make decisions.

If the incident on the northside occurred t 12.15pm at 1.30pm at central there was still no idea or information what, when or if trains were going to be running on either the Ipswich or Caboolture line. (lots of school groups, mothers with prams etc waiting around for any information)

There was also another incident at Nundah railway station earlier this morning between 7:30 am - 8:15 am which caused peak hour delays, some overcrowding and late platform changes at my local station. Apparently, there was a medical incident involving a lady in the 2nd car of a 6 car set, the train was held at Nundah until an ambulance arrived. Trust the poor lady was safely looked after and ok in the end.
