Vic govt commits $270m for new trains

The Victorian government will spend more than $270 million buying eight new trains for Melbourne's troubled transport network.

The money would come from a stronger than expected end of year financial position revealed on Wednesday in a government annual report, Premier John Brumby said.

The new trains are in addition to the 10 that are being brought forward under a $362 million allocation in this year's state budget.
