Myki - Melbourne's smart card system, check out the fare structures

Trial in Geelong.  2 hour and daily cap.  Also the option for a myki pass (user selects anywhere from 28 to 325 days at a significantly discounted rate)  similar to a monthly or longer.

At least they have the fare structures in a better shape right from the initial roll out than some other ticketing systems we know!

Everyone knows that Melbourne is at least a million times better than Brisbane in every way except weather. Let's all move to Melbourne.

The big problem with myki is the cost, already > one billion $   :-w

I just recently come back from Melbourne and got myself a Myki, works very similar to Go Card but you actually have to wait a second or 2 for the reader to scan. Another problem with their system is the screens, the text size is way too small that i had trouble reading how much the fair was. The daily capping is something we need here!

The wheel surely is public domain by now. Somehow I don't think proprietry hard and software combinations are so easily come by...
