There is currently significant improvements happening at Indooroopilly bus station, with configuration changes etc...

Hopefully, it will make catching a bus there a lot easier

Councillor James Mackay has done a bit of a blurb on it on his Facebook "5 min Friday" segment.

Cazza

A few small but positive changes on the horizon for July 11 (in addition to Sunshine Coast service improvements: https://translink.com.au/updates/102346 and stop consolidation at Newstead for the green bridge: https://translink.com.au/updates/126816)

https://translink.com.au/updates/109171
QuoteRoute 326 extension, Fitzgibbon

From Monday 11 July, bus route 326 is being extended into Fitzgibbon and to Carseldine station.

This extension will provide Fitzgibbon residents with off-peak services and provide a connection to train services.

As part of this change there'll be some stop changes to route 326 so be sure to check below if you're stop is affected.

Travelling to Norris Road State School or Bracken Ridge TAFE
If you normally use the stops on Telegraph Road to travel to the school or TAFE, you can still catch route 327 from these stops.

Alternatively, you can catch route 327 and then transfer onto route 326 at Bracken Ridge Plaza.

Travelling to Sandgate
If you normally use the stops on Telegraph Road to travel to Sandgate, you can catch route 327 from these stops then transfer at Taigum Shopping Centre onto route 326 or 335 to Sandgate station.

The 326 is a seriously long, unreliable, convoluted and simply illogical route. Why it doesn't start/terminate at Sandgate and run via Bracken Ridge, Fitzgibbon, Carseldine then Taigum I don't get. Even further, if they split it at Sandgate, they could have:
-Route 326: Carseldine to Sandgate (or Shorncliffe) via Bracken Ridge (every 30 mins off-peak/weekends)
-Route 335 already covers the section between Sandgate and Taigum and 327 between Taigum and Toombul. Put savings into doubling the 326 frequency as above.

https://translink.com.au/updates/114611
QuoteSimpler services for western Brisbane

We're simplifying routes 425, 430, 435, 450, 453, 454 and 460 to make it easier to know where to get on and off your bus.

From Monday 11 July, these routes will travel via Roma Street busway station instead of Cultural Centre at all times of the day. By making this change all trips will take the same path into and out of the City.

At Roma Street there are more transfer options to bus and train services, to help you to get where you need to go.

You'll also be able to use Coronation Drive at Cribb Street, stop 4, on every trip toward the western suburbs making it easier to travel to Milton.

Due to the route change, we need to make minor adjustments to timetables. Your bus may arrive or depart slightly earlier or later, depending on direction of travel. Please plan your journey before travelling.

Why we're making the changes
Brisbane Metro works at King George Square involve closing the nearby bus turnaround facility impacting the ability for off-peak services to do the required turn to run from Cultural Centre to Queen Street.

The changes also make the network more accessible and easier to navigate, addressing customer feedback.

Whilst a logical change for now, Cultural Centre to Coro Dr is an extremely important connection that needs to be reinstated post Metro commencement.

https://translink.com.au/updates/113526
QuoteRoute 554 - more buses when it matters

From Monday 11 July, the route 554 Garden City to Logan Central bus timetable is changing.

To help reduce overcrowding at Garden City station and on the service itself, we will be adding an extra service between 3pm and 4pm on weekdays, where demand is at its highest.

The timetable for all weekday route 554 buses travelling from Garden City between 3.22pm and 7.02pm will change.

Please replan your journey to ensure you are catching the best service possible.

Positive change given how crazy the overcrowding on the 3:32pm service currently is. Having services at 3:02pm, 3:22pm and 3:42pm instead will hopefully spread the load of school kids more evenly. Plus, I've heard that the times for the afternoon have been adjusted to deliberately connect with trains at Kuraby which is also a plus.

https://translink.com.au/updates/118401
QuoteAdelaide Street, Brisbane City - stop changes

From Monday 11 July, stops 43 and 42 will move further down Adelaide Street and stop 41 will close to allow for important Brisbane Metro construction works at King George Square.

Outbound route 411, 415, 416, 417, 433, 445 and 471 services will also run one minute earlier than their current timetable from Ann Street onwards.

Basically:
-All outbound 400s series routes will now run via Ann St instead of Adelaide St (a very positive change given the congestion down Adelaide and delays faced trying to turn right onto George then left onto Riverside Exwy)
-Stop 42 (375, 380, 390 etc.) will be relocated to Stop 41
-Stop 43 (60, 192, 196) will be relocated to Stop 42

Not a fan of leaving Stop 43 (199) more isolated from 60/196 services but I guess that's how it has to be for now.

However, I seriously don't understand why they are leaving the 400s departure times the same but saying they will operate 1 min earlier after Ann Street. Why not save all the time and effort replacing stop timetables, conveying to people these timetable changes and modifying run sheets by just having services depart from Wickham Tce 1 min later?! Not quite sure if that one was fully thought through.

4BC --> The notorious Brisbane bus routes some drivers are 'afraid' to take

QuoteThree notorious bus routes in Brisbane are reportedly so violent some bus drivers say they're now scared to take them.

The revelation comes after 9News obtained footage of a violent brawl that erupted on a bus on the 100 route, which goes through Forest Lake, Rocklea, Annerley and into the CBD.

Passengers can be seen throwing punches and yelling before the driver intervenes.

A baby strapped to the chest of a woman being hit was not injured but the driver was shoved. ...

The three routes:  100 ***  110 *** 330 ***

QuoteMore than 300 bus stops across the state will be upgraded with new shelters and better access with public transport users in Logan and Sunshine Coast to be the biggest beneficiaries.

Logan City Council undertook a massive bus shelter replacement scheme in 2017 and will now get funds to upgrade access to 75 stops along with money to put shelters on 14.

Sunshine Coast commuters will have shelters installed at 20 stops and better access at 40 bus stops with money to be spent on improving paths, handrails, ramps, boarding devices and signs. ...

I was at Indooroopilly today and noticed the new bus changes at the bus station. Stops D and E are on the street. I noticed people are jaywalking across Station Road after getting off their service at stop E to enter the centre. This is not an ideal situation. Another poor outcome from the configuration change is that stops D and E do not have any real time displays for upcoming buses. I was under the assumption, they would at least have ePaper as a solution.

verbatim9

#2567
^^@Translink, Indooroopilly bus station is a major interchange. Please install new real time dynamic passenger info displays or ePaper technology at stops D and E for passenger information. In addition, please liaise with BCC for safety improvements when crossing Station road from stop E to other bus station stops.

Recommendations:

Dynamic Real time PIDs or ePaper tech installations at stops D an E.

Improved, priority signalling for pedestrians at the lights on Station road.

Safety fencing to prevent jaywalking across station road from stop E. Priority pedestrian signalling should reduce the possibility of jaywalking.

If safety fencing  is not an option?  Please provide a safety refuge island in the centre of Station road to help assist people to cross 4 lanes of traffic.

The high frequency bus stop outside the Aviary site at Toowong is now closed until mid 2023. This is to make way for proposed road reconfiguration and a new premium bus stop, as well hoarding and scaffolding for the Aviary project. The temporary high frequency stop is back 50 metres near the HX Asian supermarket.

Thanks for the photos Verbatim 9. Toowong is a good place for a bus interchange but I wonder if that has factored into the planning at all.

No probs, I believe there is no  interchange planned but they are planning a stop where two buses can pull in while allowing through traffic to pass.

What I was getting at was integration by co-location with short walking distance from a high-quality in-line station rather than an off-line station that requires deviating off the road.

Here is Bern's Bahnhof light rail station

And Sydney's Central Chalmers Street Light Rail station

I can't expect it would be anything other than on-road the way it already is.  There's hardly a lot of vacant land around there.

achiruel

The "free" would only apply if you didn't take another bus/train to connect to it. Otherwise, it's included in the cost of your fare in Zone 1.

Honestly, it looks like a route looking for a reason to exist. The vast majority of its catchment is already covered by rail, 60, 196 & 199. Boundary St south of Vulture St is still only covered by the almost worthless 198. I would far rather have seen funds into fixing a black hole like that rather than this (IMO) shameless attempt to grab votes from the Greens. It's not even Mackay's ward, why is he announcing it?

aldonius

The West End loop bus officially exists because of Metro construction disruptions.

West End could also do with better east-west connections. In a world where the bus budget was, oh, twice as big, a route from Coorparoo Square to the Kurilpa area via the length of Vulture St would be pretty neat. (Or from Coorparoo to Toowong, if the new bridge there had buses.)

But yeah there are much larger black holes out there - even within the BCC area!

Route 100, 110 and N100 disruptions

20th January 2023

Greetings,

We have noted that for ' safety reasons ' there will be disruptions to bus routes 100, 110 and N100.

https://translink.com.au/updates/223496

As published by Translink, from 6.30pm on Friday 20 January until further notice Route 100 travelling towards Forest Lake will terminate at Blunder Road stop 67, Oxley Ridge and will not continue to Forest Lake shops.

Route 110 will terminate at Mortimer Road stop 59, Acacia Ridge North and will not continue to Inala Plaza station.

Route N100 travelling towards Richlands station will terminate at Blunder Road stop 67, Oxley Ridge and will not continue to Richlands station.

So citizens in the electorate of Inala will be denied bus services.  There has been a failure by the Minister for Transport and Translink to take more proactive action to avoid this denial of service.    We understand there have been safety and security issues with some citizens and the due to the lack of protective cabins in buses, drivers are no longer confident or are safe. We support the bus drivers, but also are seriously alarmed about the denial of service and impacts on the good citizens of Inala.  The lack of protective cabins in buses has been an issue for years, and nothing has really been resolved.  The non-solution?  STOP THE BUSES!

It is time the Minister of Transport and the Premier got on the ball.  This situation is NOT ACCEPTABLE.

As one of members has stated " Shame it has to come to this but fair enough. Safety is definitely the number one priority. It just sucks that it also adversely impacts the silent majority of people who are doing the right thing! Here's hoping a quick resolution is found and the services can resume as soon as possible. "

Please advise urgently DDG Translink and Minister Bailey what steps are being taken to reverse this denial of service.

Thank you.

Best wishes,
Robert

Translink cut some stops out on the 524 for a while, a year or so ago, problems with citizens and safety/security concerns. Problems on the 100s has been ongoing for years.  They DO FUKING NOTHING MUCH!

There really has been a lack of proactive actions re driver safety.  Secure cabins are needed, safety screens, other jurisdictions can manage these things, here it is, STOP THE BUSES!

Fuk I am disappointed, and seething. I have had enough of lack of action on the things that really matter.

The Queensland bus network can only be described as in a high state of failure at present.

TransPerth Bus Driver Protection

This is a TransPerth bus. It has a fully enclosed wire cage around the driver's compartment.

TransPerth uses a very similar model of bus to what BCC uses. ALL TransPerth buses I have caught this week are like this. Some have an extra plastic panel that the drivers hang up (shown here). I can only assume that this is to block liquids being squirted into the compartment.

TransPerth has a very heavy security presence. I have seen guards at all major bus stations, train stations, driving around on streets doing patrols in their patrol car. They even catch the bus on roving patrols. In the evening and at night on weekdays they are everywhere.

In just one week, I have had my ticket on the train checked twice. Once was at 11 pm at night! There were also two separate occasions this week when guards boarded my bus as well.
