From all reports, this was a significant outage.  There are still homes without power and police were directing traffic at some intersections during the morning peak due to power outages.

To get power restored on the rail network in time for the first service this morning was a commendable effort.  Well done QR.  :)

A major direct lightening strike on the system around Graceville (?)  caused the outage.

On the basis of their response to tonight's power cuts, if you ever receive an invite to a p%ss up in a brewerey organised by QR.... DON'T GO!!!!!  :pr  Latest estimate (guess?) is for services to resume by 4.00 am tomorrow morning  >:(

To be fair to QR, re-wiring electric wires is not something you can do in 10mins!

I love how QR and TransLink are often blamed for "acts of god". Yes yes, DAMN QR for organising that storm. Damn TransLink for flooding the busway so I can't get to work!
Haha, seriously though, I've weathered floods, storms, power outages, suicides and landslides on the tracks, and I've got to say that 90% of the time QR run with the ball as best they can. I wish more people commended them on the fantastic job they do, given they're just as stuck as the rest of us.

There was a 'track failure' last evening around 8 to 9pm between Roma St and Bowen Hills. Not sure of the exact details.

AN alleged security incident has halted a tilt train at Caboolture Station. Police stopped the train after information from a member of the public about suspicious activity.

It is understood a passenger heard a fellow traveller talking about a bomb and telephoned police, who are now searching the train and Caboolture station.

Translink advised the station has been closed until further notice.

Buses are being organised to transfer passengers between Morayfield, Caboolture and Elimbah stations.

Translink says customers should expect delays of up to an hour.

Bus passengers heading to Bribie Island should board at Caboolture Park Shopping Centre in King Street rather than Caboolture train station.

Signal fault halts trains

Signal fault halts trains
Article from: The Courier-Mail

October 19, 2009 12:05pm

A SIGNAL failure has brought trains to a halt on the North Coast Caboolture line, between Zillmere and Strathpine stations.

Buses will ferry passengers between those stations until the problem is rectified.

The signalling problem has also caused the boom gates to be stuck in the down position at Telegraph Road level crossing at Bracken Ridge.

The problem is compunded by a grass fire at Telegraph Rd and this is causing smoke and haze in the local area.

It is expected that this could continue to occur for some time and the following roads will have partial road closures: Telegraph Rd, Linkfield Rd, Beams Rd and Lacey Rd.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

Article from: The Courier-Mail

A COAL train derailment has forced Translink to cancel train services on the Rosewood line this afternoon.

The derailment occurred at Ebenezer, west of Ipswich, about 2.20pm.

The empty train was travelling from Fisherman Island to Toowoomba. The derailment has blocked both directions of the line.

No one was injured.

Queensland Rail has advised that buses will convey all passengers between Ipswich and Rosewood, stopping all stations.

Passengers should expect delays of up to 30 minutes.

Derailment causes train delays

QuoteDerailment causes train delays

Andrew Korner | 21st October 2009

THE derailment of an empty coal train west of Ipswich yesterday is set to add to the misery of commuters who use the Queensland Rail network to get between the city and Rosewood.

A Queensland Rail spokesman said the coal train crashed off the tracks at Ebenezer - between Thagoona and Rosewood - while travelling from the Port of Brisbane to Toowoomba, about 2.20pm.

The wreckage blocked both tracks of the passenger and freight line, forcing QR to replace peak hour rail services with buses which, in turn, caused delays of up to half-an-hour for peak-hour passengers.

Prior to the accident, the Ipswich to Rosewood line only operated during peak hours, with buses replacing daytime services while QR conducts repairs to the Sadliers Crossing bridge.

Maintenance work on the bridge began late last month and was expected to continue until January 4, 2010.

QR had initially planned to close the section of track for three months while the work took place, however, Minister for Transport Rachel Nolan intervened and services were maintained during peak hours.

A revised timetable for the Rosewood to Ipswich line is available at www.translink.com.au.

The cause of yesterday's derailment was unknown and QR refused to speculate, saying that the incident would be investigated.

The blocked lines were not expected to be cleared until this morning. The Queensland Rail spokesman said 11 wagons were derailed in the accident.

?Four of the 11 wagons are on their side,? the QR spokesman said.

?The train drivers were not injured.?

A Translink spokesman said buses would convey all passengers between Ipswich and Rosewood, stopping all stations, until the track was cleared.

Delays for Gold Coast rail commuters

QuoteDelays for Gold Coast rail commuters
October 23, 2009 - 6:13AM

Rail commuters from the Gold Coast and Beenleigh will face lengthy delays this morning due to an electrical fault.

As a result, only one track is open between Beenleigh and Ormeau causing delays of up to 30 minutes.

"This is expected to impact on all inbound and outbound Gold Coast trains and on some Beenleigh line services," Translink said in a statement.

Electricians are working to fix the problem, although commuters can expect delays throughout the morning.
