I ended up getting stuck at Banoon, and after about a 30min wait, I headed back inbound on a packed to the brim Brisbane City and Ferny Grove service.

Would have 135"d it after a small walk up troughton rd :P

Its good that the QR execs see first hand the effects of these major delays. They are the ones who need to press the government often for tougher penalties on gate/bridge strikes. The general public never hear back if they have or havent.....

Yo, indeed.  However if a 15 minute timetable is running 15 minutes late, most won't notice ..

I am heading out on the Beenleigh line shortly, see what is going on ...

Made it to Park Road, before I had to head back for some interviews (9 and 7 News).  Plenty of trains although all behind on timetable.  Everything seems to be on time now (presently at Central).

Managed to have a good look around platform 4 Park Road, now in regular use (peak).

Queensland:  Bridge strikes, level crossing incidents continue unabated - action demanded today.

Greetings,

On one of the most important days for rail and public transport in SEQ ever, two boom gate strikes have already caused delays, not only for the public transport network but also the road network. Serious incident in Toowoomba Friday night.  It is time that serious sanctions were imposed on these clowns.  Life time suspensions make actually endear the behaviour change that is lacking with selfish motorists in Queensland.

What's new?

Best wishes

Queensland:  Bridge strikes, level crossing incidents continue unabated - action demanded today.

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport users has called for immediate action to stop road users causing chaos with the rail network, and for the Government to get serious about bridge strikes.

Robert Dow, spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

"Yesterday on the QR Citytrain network more chaos from bridge strikes and motorists disregarding road rules and smashing into boom gates.  It is time that something was done!  Enough is enough."

"Heavy vehicles, buses and trucks must stop at all unprotected level crossings immediately and only proceed if safe to do so."

Waiting at South Brisbane station since 5.09pm. 3 Gold Coast and 3 Cleveland Line services have departed without a Beenleigh Line service departing. Translink website indicates the 5.12pm (ex South Brisbane)  Beenleigh Line service was cancelled due to staffing issues leaving a 22 minute gap between Beenleigh Line services. Fortunately my wife can pick up my son from day care otherwise I would be up for additional charges. Not a good start to the new timetable.

Apparently there are still a couple minor issues relating to a couple crews or rollingstock (pretty sure its the later) still being out of position which was then combined with a service failing and having to be taken out just before the start of peak hour. Pretty sure a Ferny Grove-City service was told to run express to start its service from an earlier station to try and get things back on schedule for peak hour.

Damn...not having the best of luck today are they....

I'd hazard a guess that train either doesn't have a clear path without causing problems to the other trains around it, or the crew is in danger of going beyond their rostered hours.

I found out that even the Transport Minister was caught out by the delays this morning, when he was due to do a media gig at Altandi for the new timetables.  That was quickly switched to Park Road after the truck decided to play chicken with the boom gates, and lost.

After being told to disembark at Caboolture, we waited on Platform 1 wondering what would happen next - that was my last tweet.

We watched our train go off to park.
A short time after my last tweet we were informed to go over to Platform 2 where we caught the train travelling behind us (the 4:40pm ex-Central).
I was unable to tweet this further information as my phone battery by then had died.

The point I would like noted is that the bridge inspector took 45 minutes to arrive on location.

That's pretty good, assuming that the bridge inspector had to be mobilised from a central location (i.e. Brisbane CBD). Takes about that long to drive out to Morayfield during off-peak times.

So far this week we've had:

Monday AM: Idiot driver running into the boomgates
Monday PM: Idiot driver running into the overbridge
Tuesday AM: Track/signal faults
Wednesday AM: Idiot pedestrian getting struck by a train

Combined with the introduction of the new timetable, it's been a nightmare week for QR.

This makes it extremely difficult to work out what the teething issues for the new timetable are.

Queensland Rail

We apologise to customers who may have been disrupted due to a few issues on the network this afternoon beyond our control.

The extreme heat affected our infrastructure at two inner city locations earlier this afternoon – the points at South Brisbane and signalling at Milton. In addition, police requested we stop running trains through Banoon on the Beenleigh line for close to an hour.

Our response teams fixed the infrastructure quickly and trains have resumed following the police incident. Unfortunately, there are some residual delays and as a result, we have needed to change certain trains to three car services to keep you moving.

Safety remains our highest priority and we're working hard to get everyone home safely. Once again we're sorry for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience.
