Sir Loin

Just logged in to say the Cleveland line was a shambles this morning.

20 year old station officer was battling with the crowds at Morningside. Was only announcing every 15 minutes or so because he has a line of 20 people trying to find ut what was happening

Inbound passengers were directed to bus stop on Wynnum road. First 2 that arrived, were going direct to that city. Not much use to those wanting to travel between Morningside and Park Road (nurses, physios for the PA hospital etc).

Absoltute clusterf**k. Ended up walking home and driving.

#Metro

AIUI, Perth has set bus routes with their own bus route number that become activated when something like this happens.
They have assigned route numbers.
900 series if I recall. Making sure that there are good bus bays near each and every rail station is also a good idea.

I wonder how Airtrain customers from the Gold Coast line fared?

Trains were running at Kuraby when I left for work around 7:50AM.

Gold Coasters were going via Tennyson ( ;D )

Shows the benefit of redundant routes.  :-t

Alderley to Strathpine will confer similar benefits to Caboolture, Nambour & Maroochydore services in the event of a stuff-up around Northgate (for example).

Something was going on at Fortitude Valley when I went through this morning.  Train on platform 3 (inbound) going nowhere and announcements to move to platform 1 if people were catching a train to Central or Roma St.  Nothing on the TransLink website so it may have cleared soon afterwards.

Inbound Shorncliffe train cancelled

The 4:43pm Shorncliffe to City service has been cancelled due to a crewing issue. The next inbound service is due to depart Shorncliffe Station at 5:12pm.

Passengers travelling inbound from Shorncliffe can expect delays of 30 minutes.

Affected Services
-Shorncliffe line

Derwan

The 4:43 is the return of the cancelled 3:51 ex Central to Shorncliffe, which was cancelled due to "operational issues."  (Not sure if it was to do with the cow.)

The cancelled 3:51 meant that anyone who wasn't there for the 3:22 would have to wait for the 4:29 train - that's a wait of 1 hour and 7 minutes.

As you can imagine, the 4:29 was chokkas!

If the delay was due to the cow or something else other than staffing issues, could they not have launched an "as required" from Mayne to fill the gap?  Us Shorncliffe commuters are always the first to suffer when something goes wrong.

Yes, you have to wonder why there was not an extra put on ...  not acceptable that gap at all.

I would also wonder.  But then, why is there that 38 minute gap in the first place.

"It is believed the cow was moved only a few metres by a passenger train once it was shot."
So the trains were stopped... the cow then shot.... then pushed by a train.... am I the only one that has a issue with that?

What?  ???

Why didn't they just spray it with a fire trucks hoses and get a lasoo and pull it.
Or shot it with tranquiliser darts?

Well it was going to go to the meatworks, They just speed up the issue (I still have issues with shooting it btw), I was/am more concern with "moving it with the train" part.

mufreight

If you were waiting on the train would you want to sit around for a further hour or so waiting to get to your destination.
Shooting the cow was the quickest humane means of resolving the problem, using the train to move the dead beast minimised the delays and from the location where it was most probably the safest way or removing it so services could be restored.

Runaway cow stops train service

QuoteRunaway cow stops train service

16th November 2010

A RUNAWAY cow held up train services on the Ipswich rail line for an hour yesterday afternoon before it was shot dead.

The cow became stuck on Six Mile Creek Bridge between the Redbank and Riverview stations shortly before 2.30pm.

Services were held up while staff from the nearby JBS Swifts meatworks, where the cow is believed to have escaped from, tried to move it off the tracks.

Police said the cow was eventually shot before being moved off the bridge and away from the tracks with the help of a train.

TransLink said services on the line resumed as normal with no delay from about 3.30pm.
