I really fear for the SEQ rail network when the focus shifts onto the Gold Coast line.

' Mechanical issues ' will turn the low frequency services into a massive basket case no doubt.

One hour services, two hour services being cancelled will result in some long journey times, missed connections and dare I suggest missed #GC2018 events for some.

The ' State of Queensland ' is a giant fiasco sadly ...  I really doubt if Queensland Rail will get through the next 3 weeks or so unscathed.

I do wonder if it will take the major embarrassment of a huge railfail during the comm games to get more serious action by those at the top to really fix things. But maybe I'm being optimistic.

Couriermail --> Broken down train causes delays across rail network

QuoteA BROKEN-DOWN train is causing mass delays for commuters across Brisbane this afternoon, with peak hour hit by setbacks of up to half an hour.

All southbound services except the Ipswich service are slowed by around 30 mins, which is also creating a 10 minute delay for northbound services.

Services are now being run express to make up for the problem.

A Queensland Rail spokeswoman confirmed a failed service stopped at South Brisbane at around 4pm, with passengers forced to change trains. ...

If CRR was built when it was first planned, there would hardly be an issue at all this afternoon! It's not rocket science is it :conf

Which EMU(s) was it?

Also a big :clp: for the Ipswich line.
Do I really need to clarify?

Hard to tell from the photo above, either 64 or 84 is the trailing set.

Definitely EMU84.

Just imagine if the Tennyson Line didn't exist... It's been required for, what, two times in two weeks?

How about 50% off for 30 March-20 April? That's about all it's worth, anyway.

I don't support a fare free day.

Not only does it consume lots of money, it doesn't expand service and likely to contribute to delayed service expansion in the future as managers try to keep within allocated budget. Given the frequency of such breakdowns, I wonder if there will be any budget left to run trains.

More generally, if people want to support mindlessly renewing QR's contracts, then they must accept the service quality, lack communication and organisation that comes with their chosen operator and operating model. Sans compensation.

^

The amount of profligate waste going on for GC2018 it would not even be noticed metro.  It might actually reap benefits in the longer term by encouraging more back to public transport and hence increase the fare box in the longer term.

I really do think the fares should be off peak for the duration though.  The service reductions warrant some acknowledgement.

Discounting rotten apples is a long term losing strategy. Long term growth will only come from selling non-rotten, quality apples.

And if you can't get quality apples to sell, drop the supplier.

^Wtf are they on? Why not express Wooloowin and Albion where there would be another service in the next 5 mins, rather than 30?

And they wonder why they are getting so much hate from the public. Rightly so.
