If it's a suicide/jumper, I'd say not Somebody.  If the Police tell QR to stop trains, there would be a very good reason for it.

I think sometimes people forget that safety comes first, than on time running, just as Paul Scurrah said at the CPTF.  I'd rather myself and others be safe first than arrive on time.

somebody

You'd say that Ferny Grove/Beenleigh trains couldn't keep going?

Or did you mean that the extra track couldn't be used?

longboi

The extra track isn't going to be used if there is an incident going on the neighboring tracks.

As for the FG tracks, if you have trains backed up far enough then you could have them sitting in Bowen Hills which would prevent FG trains getting past and up their overpass. I would have thought you would need a large number for that to happen though.

Indeed, you'd need a large number.  And you'd think they could terminate some of the intervening trains at Bowen Hills to let the FG trains through.  Perhaps they didn't think of that in time.

Didn't get any Translink or erail text, but this morning there was a delay of about 15 minutes heading through Central to Roma st (platform 1 and 2 only) due to a broken train. I noticed it at abotu 6.50am but they had it cleared by a bit past 7. They had already re-routed one Beenleigh train via platform 5 by then. There may be some follow up delays due to this.

Train commuters faced hour delays

QuoteTrain commuters faced hour delays

Zane Jackson | 28th September 2010

HUNDREDS of Ipswich commuters faced peak hour delays heading to Brisbane following a track fault yesterday morning.

TransLink said the disruptions, which started at 6.20am, caused delays to 10 Brisbane-bound train services and the cancellation of two others.

Queensland Rail electricians were dispatched as soon as the signal fault was detected and service was resumed by 8.20am.

TransLink said the average delay was 15 minutes but some commuters told The Queensland Times they had to wait for an hour before boarding replacement buses between the Ipswich and Dimore stations.

Robert Dow, a spokesman for commuter advocacy group Rail Back on Track, said despite the delays Queensland Rail had responded faster than it would have last year.

Queensland Rail now looks after all the trains and tracks on the passenger network. Before that a separate entity, QR National, handled all track and network problems.

"It will take some time to get their systems in place, but their response time was rapid compared to this time last year," he said.

"Faults happen and delays can be frustrating, but they are complex infrastructure."

He said on time performance had been improving.

"They are consistently getting over 95 per cent which is very good," he said.

There will be more delays for Brisbane-bound commuters this weekend with all trains between Rosewood and Sherwood to be replaced by buses.

The track closure, which TransLink said is for improvement works, will start from the first Saturday morning service to the last Sunday afternoon service.

A new peak hour 4.28pm service from Central to Ipswich is due to start next week on October 4.

Presently at Corinda, nothing UP at all (except coalies off the Tennyson loop).  About to board the 11.13am Caboolture service, announcements warning of possible delays at Roma St.  Probably have a train stuck, other roads closed (only guessing), take time to clear I suppose.

In the great days of mechanical signalling and signal boxes, train fails were sorted by coming up behind with another unit and pushing the failed unit out of the way.  Remember as a kid being on a R steam loco hauled service that failed on a Melbourne suburban line. A Tait set come up behind and pushed us off the main line.  Great days!!  LOL

As luck would have it, whilst waiting for the green light, the failed EMU being pushed by another EMU passed across onto the Normanby loop. Managed to film it from onboard EMU40.  Presently at Buranda, will upload it later today when I get home. Lots of fun travelling around off peak, never a dull moment.  Two full coalies just passed through Buranda ...

An EMU 6 car train being assisted by another EMU 6 car train to clear Roma St station Brisbane after failing between Central and Roma St stations.  Filmed from EMU40, that was held at a red signal to allow the failed train to be cleared from Roma St.

Roma St, musical platforms 'passengers on platform 8, the Ipswich train will now leave from platform 4 ..'

I can walk and type at the same time ..  ;)

'the 1.38 Ipswich service will now depart from platform 4'  few bushed pax around ..

:bi

Now onboard SMU 279, announcement more delays ...  2 or 3 minutes ..  must be the PN goods train getting out of the way (yes just passing through platform 7 Roma St, so much for theory that goods trains cannot run through high level platforms, the actual reality confirmed yet again) ...  timetabled to leave at 1.38pm  actual 1.48pm

Also noted crew working on first points (X over) UP from Roma St on the main UP line, maybe a points failure has complicated the earlier issues with the failed unit.  This might explain the PN goods running through as it did.

What are goods trains doing running through Roma Street and Central? Is this an exception or just normal practice?

Not normally, it would appear a number of failures and track issues today may have lead to this goods tracking through Roma St and Central stations.  Goods trains have been noted occasionally running through the CBD but is usually for some operational reason that makes Normanby inaccessible.

I would imagine it causes less disruption to route via Central if heading through Yeerongpilly.  It's the Toowoomba range trains which don't make sense to route through Central.

Golliwog

Possibly, but I have only ever seen them running through platform 6 at Central which would cause just as much disruption as getting across to Normanby wouldn't it?
