Gold Coast Line - Speed restrictions between Beenleigh and Ormeau in place untill further notice.

TransLink - http://www.translink.com.au/servicechange.php?10351

QuoteTransLink has been advised by Queensland Rail that due to a reduction in speed limit between Beenleigh and Ormeau there will be minor delays to Gold Coast line rail services. Delays are likely to be up to 5 minutes on rail services operating in both directions.

MichaelJ over at Failpage reports the speed. restrictions will be between 6pm and last train every day.

QuoteIt has been reported, effective today, a speed restriction of 100km/h will apply on the Gold Coast Line from 18:00 until the Last Train due to rock throwing. This follows numerous incidents on the line in recent weeks.

Queensland Rail advises delays of up to five minutes in each direction may be experienced. Given the 25-30% speed reduction, I would be inclined to suggest 10-15 minute delays would be more accurate

Citytrain services on Beenleigh line hit by power failure, commuters stranded

Citytrain services on Beenleigh line hit by power failure, commuters stranded

PASSENGERS travelling on all Queensland Rail lines can expect delays of up to an hour after an earlier signal fault.

A Queensland Rail spokesperson said train services were slowly resuming on all lines.

"Customers may wish to consider other transport options, wherever possible," they said.

Hundreds of commuters were left stranded at inner-city stations due to the fault on the southbound Beenleigh line. Stations between Roma Street and Moorooka were inaccessible, with Beenleigh trains diverted express on the Ipswich line to Moorooka to pick up services from there.

Ekka crowds compounded the number of commuters affected.

The outage happened about 7pm.

The 4:46 Petrie train arrived at Central with the rear 3 carriages on battery power.  It sat at the platform for a while, then the doors closed and the pantograph lowered.  It sat for a little while longer before the pantograph went back up again, but the power still didn't come on and everyone was told to disembark.

Fortunately there was an Ekka train right behind the service, which was promptly turned into a Petrie train, but the delays were set in motion.

No eRail alert with this one.  When I went through Banyo around 7:35, police had the level crossing blocked off.  I'm guessing the track fault meant that the boom gates were stuck down.

We had minor delays at both Nudgee and Banyo.  I was in the rear carriage and because it was "quiet", I heard the driver/guard intercom go off in the unoccupied rear cab just before the guard gave the double-bell signal.  This happened at both stations and leads me to suspect that signals were stuck on red and the driver was doing approvals with Control to proceed.

I got caught up in that, which threw my day by an hour!  I went to Oxley to check out the prototype Go Card reader with intention to jumping on the train back to the Corinda to jump onto the 104 to get myself to the PA Hospital.  Train ended up 20mins late with no announcements (found a station officer at the concourse smoking - railway property!).

A horrible experience.  Ended up stuck at Oxley for an hour.

"Trains have resumed service through the CBD following an earlier medical emergency on a train at Eagle Junction. There are only minimal residual delays as services return to schedule."

I am a little perplexed.
Why would a medical emergency on a train at Eagle Junction affect all network services through the CBD??
Is this the nanny state gone mad.
If the particular emergency occurred on a train travelling from Eagle Junction, then is it not irrelevant to mention Eagle Junction now that this service is obviously in the CBD.
Aren't there 4 lines servicing the CBD.
Imagine if this occurred at Sydney's central - would all 20 something platforms be closed??
???

somebody

It also never ceases to amaze me how many "police incidents" stop trains in Brisbane.

Let's say that the failed train was on a cross over and fouled three tracks and the fourth track didn't have bi-di signaling.  Wouldn't Ferny Grove-Beenleigh lines be unaffected?  Couldn't Gold Coast, Ipswich & Cleveland trains turn around at Bowen Hills?  Also, can't trains travel in one direction on the other track until the problem is fixed?
