The irony is vehicles often need to be upgraded to safely participate in a DD.

I don't think they have a lot of choice at the moment, considering how late the NGR project is running. I imagine QR were hoping to have retired a few of the older EMUs and maybe the ICEs by now.

Daytime track closures was raised at CRG last night.

Until QR are compelled to report ALL OTR stats and not just peak hour, this will continue to be an issue because quite frankly they don't give a crap. The attitude seems to have pervaded the entire organisation.

Be interesting to see what effect this late service will have for the following ones. I predict another morning of #railfail.

So true when there is track closures during the day between Bowen Hills and Roma Street it can add an extra 10mins to the journey.

It was very clear from the recent ramshackle Easter/School holiday timetable that saw Queensland Rail move from standard clockface times (allegedly to optimise Airtrain connections which was shown by analysis by STB to be nonsense) and so doing breaking bus/rail and many rail/rail connections that the powers to be do not understand the notion of an integrated public transport network! If they do they clearly don't care a toss for the punters, stuck in limbo land in the outer reaches of the network.

We are now in the midst of a public transport crisis.  No other term describes adequately the mess now other than crisis!

PTV's website:

"South Morang line: Buses replacing trains on Sunday, 21 May 2017 – updated at 5pm

Added: 21 May 2017
Updated at 5pm

Customers are advised that due to an emergency services request, buses are being organised to replace train services between Bell and South Morang stations.
It is not known at this stage when normal services will resume.
We encourage customers travelling on this line today to plan ahead, allow extra time for your journey, and consider alternative travel plans, such as altering your departure time, or using a different mode of public transport.
Continue to check the website for the most up to date information before you travel.
PTV sincerely apologises for the disruptions and thanks customers for their patience."
https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/live-travel-updates/article/south-morang-line-buses-replacing-trains-on-sunday-21-may-2017-updated-at-16-52pm/

This just shows the difference in service quality we are experiencing. In Melbourne, they are able to swiftly organise rail replacement buses for an emergency whereas in QLD, we are stranded for hours, waiting for the disruption to clear. No alternative transport is provided.

This notice is also located on the front page of the website. This is also another major difference to QLD where any information is hidden away in the deep dark corners of a void.

#Metro

Melbourne and Perth are very well organised with regards to disruptions and replacement buses.

They have the replacement bus numbers sorted out and the stops permanently marked.

Replacement buses are low floor and modern.

Simple clear messaging.  Everyone understands the reason for the delay.
