No idea, just relying what I read.

Probably to save of overtime by not doing it at night.

Still pathetic. Why every 4 days? Is the tunnel prone to spontaneous collapse? Zero (c)harm I'm guessing. Imagine if you shut down Airport Link between 10am - 2pm on 1-2 days a week in one direction. The media would be running around like headless chooks!

It is just incredibly frustrating and just reinforces in the minds of the average commuter how bad our rail network is.

Quote from: ozbob on April 28, 2017, 11:13:08 AM^ can also stuff connections.

On the contrary, often this means Cab - Ips trains are 2 minutes behind Airport - GC trains rather than running at the same time, making a connection between the two possible. Always a brightside, right? :bg:
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

tazzer9

Melbourne doesn't shut half of the city loop.   Sydney doesn't shut down the city circle.  We don't shut down the robina tunnel.  So why do we do this?

Yo I only know too well James having watched the Ippy depart as I arrive at Eagle Junction on the Airtrain numerous times.

We have a low frequency rail service network connecting with low frequency bus service network - maintaining connections is very important ( except for QR who don't seem to care too much at all).

The 3:55pm Central to KR train arrived at 4:48pm, why couldn't that have been put into service (albeit a few minute late) rather than canceling the service altogether? Especially with that woeful 32 minute wait for the next train.

Why not suggest the alternative of the 680 bus which departed
Kippa-Ring station at 4:39pm? Sure it's a few minutes before the train but with sufficient notification some pax may have been able to change plans and arrive a few minutes early. This could have connected with the 5:26pm ex Caboolture train at Petrie.

TransLink just aren't interested in giving out alternative transport options for cancellations.

ozbob

^ fair point.

I note that both Metro Melbourne and Yarra Trams frequently suggest alternate rail/tram and even bus at times as appropriate when there are disruptions.

The attitude at TransLink is one of minimal mediocrity.

10.05pm Central to Nambour train delayed 70 minutes http://bit.ly/2p1h6OI  #TLAlert #TLSunshineCoastline

A delay of 70 mins at 10pm? That is just absurd. What on earth do they think people would do? Wait till 11:15 (when it should have been at Glass House Mountains Station)? This is just plain stupid. Even a replacement bus would have been an applicable option here.

I have just done a quick search and gathered some info. The 10:05 pm train from Central to Nambour actually departs Ipswich at 9:07pm (this one was cancelled due to an operational issue- anything ranging from a sick driver to a koala smoking weed on the tracks- no one really knows).

On Translink's Twitter page, the first update on the 9:07 (leaving Ipswich) Nambour bound train being cancelled was approximately 24 hours ago (from when I am writing this- currently about 7:25pm). So, Translink/QR had of known about this cancellation about 2 hours before the service was to even depart Ipswich. Surely, they would have been able to organise a replacement service (from the Roma St at least). To bring a train from the Bowen Hills yard, around the Exhibition Loop and into Roma St before the 10:03 pm departure time doesn't seem too much of a stretch to me? Surely, there would have been a driver and guard coming into BH Depot wanting to do another service with bonus money for their kind service.

To top it all off, the delay on the 10:05 pm (leaving Central) Nambour train went from 15 mins, to 30 and then to a whopping 70 mins. Even the Brisbane to Sydney CountryLink isn't this bad (and let me tell you, they completely throw the timetable out the window- delays of 30-60 mins is what is faced with over half the services).

But seriously, with around 2 hours notice of a cancelled service, then a 70 min delay on top of this is just crazy! Only a third world city like Brisb... my bad, a new world city like Brisbane can manage to pull this off.

Service disruptions continue on Queensland Rail fail ...

Good Morning,

There is a lot of ongoing constant service cancellation and delays on the Queensland Rail network, particularly outside of peak hours.

Peak times there is of course a more constant focus, but the effects after hours of cancellations often mean massive delays and very long journey times.

Queensland Rail only immediately reports peak OTR - the problems outside peak often go largely unnoticed except for the passengers affected.
A low service frequency rail service connecting with a low frequency bus service, delays and cancellations are extremely problematical for passengers.  A point that Queensland Rail seems unable to grasp and understand.

Frankly, Queensland Rail is not getting any more reliable in essence.  Public is being treated in a very poor manner with this constant disruption.

This is the ' parade of failure ' for the evening of the 2nd of May 2017 [  https://railbotforum.org/mbs/index.php?topic=1862.msg191934#msg191934 ]

We are very concerned about Queensland Rail.

It does seem that we have a lot more problems than the Government or Queensland Rail are being honest about. The  ' secret culture ' continues.

Passengers are angry.  Talking to peak hour passengers only is distorting your view and feedback Queensland Rail.  Rail fail continues ...

Best wishes

' Operational issue ' does not explain the cause of delays/cancellations

Greetings,

Mr Nick Easy CEO Queensland Rail on 4BC Radio the other day indicated that he wants communications to improve.

How about TransLink and Queensland Rail  detail succinctly actual cause of delays in all cases.

The reason ' Operational issue ',  is very vague and just causes angst.

' Operational issue ' is a nice meaningless way of telling passengers they're not important enough to know the real reason behind the cancellation and/or delay.

It is understood that a person struck by a train needs some care, but surely most of the other situations can be clearly spelled out?

Some suggestions:

Locomotive failure.

Train failure.

Derailment.

Sick passenger.

Sick crew.

Person struck by train.

Bridge strike.

Level crossing / boom gate strike.

Signal fault.

Track fault.

Points failure.

Telemetry fault.

Rostering problem.

Trespasser in corridor.

Police incident.

Power failure.

Vegetation on line.

Vehicle on line.

Broken rail.

Broken wheel.

And so forth ...

Thanks.

Best wishes
