3 hours to get to work today (albeit none of it can really be laid at QR's feet this time).

Off train at Beenleigh
Bus caught in traffic on Logan River Rd en route to Kingston
Train from Kingston held at Park Road due to medical emergency (took 5 minutes to exit platform 4)
66 + 204 to get to my end of the CBD

New record!

I take it Kingston Rd is now open then? Was water over the road at Scrubby Creek yesterday.

SurfRail

The whole route was open, but with land closures, hence the traffic.

Plenty of submerged roads in the vicinity though (eg Schneider Rd looked like it still had a metre or more of water on top of it when we passed by).  There is a LOT of water lying around the joint.

I asked QR what was going on here with the early departure.

This was the response ( on FB )

QuoteHi Robert, thanks for your question. The 4:58pm Bowen Hills to Ipswich service was cancelled, which then meant the return 6:07pm service from Ipswich was cancelled. To avoid further delays to customers an empty service was formed to depart Ipswich at 6:00pm to then meet the next service from Redbank which departed on-time at 6:23pm. We hope this helps.

"operational issue" WTF is that supposed to mean?

QR covering their arse once again. Why not publish the true reason behind cancellations?

Stillwater

QR classes us as 'customers'.  Customers have certain rights as to level of service etc.  Can QR be sued under a class action for failure to provide an appropriate level of service?

#Metro

Contract is between Translink and Queensland Rail, not between passengers and QR.
Translink approved the timetable. Hard to sue if you approved it.

Does TransLink have any authority to NOT approve the timetable? I mean real authority, not pretend authority, i.e. will the Minister just over-rule TransLink anyway because she prefers to reward incompetence?

Stillwater

One of the legal firms could set up a Facebook page for people whose lives are affected by QR timetable changes or cancellations.  For example, your train didn't show up, causing you to miss the connection to the airport for your flight to Bali, or you turned up at the station with every expectation that the train world appear.  It didn't and you missed your best mate's funeral.  You missed the specialists appointment, requiring you to rebook an appointment 6 months down the track ... or you are a uni student who turned up late for the test because of an 'operational issue'.  I believe QR could be sued in such circumstances.  And if there were enough people in the same boat, a class action could be bought against QR.

Speaking as a lawyer, the answer would be "no", for various reasons.  Pity, because it might actually force them to fix their game.

TransLink certainly does have the authority and the responsibility to ensure the rail (and other modes) timetables are fair, proper and reasonable.  Sadly TransLink has failed IMHO with the latest timetable fiasco (School holiday/Easter) in allowing QR to move from clock face times.  This must never be allowed to occur again.

That didnt take long, so much for "ensuring service reliability" wonder how many more there will be.

techblitz

luckily and thankfully the buses @ landsborough pretty much always wait for these increasingly regular 15 min delayed trains.....the trade-off is that the 600 usually bears the brunt and a service will go missing and/or be heavily delayed.......sometimes drivers have to reschedule their breaks as a result of these QR delays....
