Sent most crews home and using buses to fill in the gaps?

Reduced demand.  Also difficult for all rostered crew to get to depots etc. - roads flooded etc.  So no surprise that they are doing that.

so I got to Ormeau @ 11.55.....still haven't left yet....asked guard whats going on.....they said they've only been shuttling using 1 train and are waiting for more trains....passengers were not warned about this hour long wait when they got to Ormeau......so once again QR has failed at proper communication......

I *think* I read somewhere a few months ago (don't remember source, so don't take this as gospel) that all QR trainsets were in service during morning peak hour. This must make it incredibly difficult (not to mention expensive!) to undertake major maintenance overhauls as the longest time they'd ever be available is over the weekend.

As for class, I can't say definitively, but given the number of Gympie North cancellations/delays/bustitutions this year, I'd wager the ICE is high up on the list (especially considering the small # of sets).

Nope. The depot is open 24/7 and work is undertaken on schedule regardless of the timetable. Minor mtce can be undertaken while the trains are stabled at Mayne which is why you will sometimes see the little red flags on the drivers cabs.

In regards to the Gympie line. That can vary. Should there be a problem with the ATP an additional crew member is required in the cab. It's also a train designed for long distance running which has now been put onto a suburban line. Most of the issues with the ICE sets are the electronics, ATP and doors. Due to the low fleet numbers/numbers of services should there be an issue it appears worse than it actually is.

Should mechanical servicing of trains be more rigorous, more frequent, more thorough, with more frequent replacement of parts etc?
Won't achieve anything. Many of the faults are electronic related and with the older fleet usually takes longer to resolve. NGR is meant to replace the aging EMUs. And the SMUs.... well. Some are almost as bad as the EMUs. And that's not including the limitations between the fleet. An example might be a fault that happens on the newer SMU260 could be solved quickly while a similar fault on an EMU requires a lot more attention from the driver and the guard due to the old electronic systems on the train. This has always been one huge downside for the QR fleet going to DO. Should there be a fault on the 4th carriage the driver has to traverse the train, diagnose the fault, try to reset it, go back to the cab and hope its fixed otherwise its back to the other 3 carriages and try it again. Some faults the train can still continue in service while the guard attends to it. Sometimes it gets solved on the fly and continues. Sometimes it keeps playing up but the train still continues until a point where both the crew have to stop and attend to the issue ie restarting the train for instance. Sometimes it gets to the point where it can restart but not capable of carrying passengers as it can still fail inbetween stations and potentially has to be recovered by another train/or its delayed long enough that it has to be cancelled.

Anyway as Bob pointed out QR are already manufacturing some of its own components to keep the fleet operating due to the age the EMUs for example where common parts back in the 70's are no longer common in 2017. Also for reference the fleet consists of ICE, ETT, DTT, EMU, SMU200, SMU220, SMU260/IMU160, IMU100, IMU110.

Few Roma St <> Northgate, Roma St <> Cannon Hill services cancelled due to ' operational reasons ' this PM.

Assume crew shortages (some crew would be impacted by floods etc. I would expect).

5:04pm Central to Nambour service has been announced as terminating at Caboolture this evening due to rostering regulations caused by the Powerlines being down due to debris between Beerwah and Landsborough today.  Thus 20 min wait at Caboolture this evening for the next Beerwah/Nambour service.

Only guessing, but I assume they are short of train crew.  Due to the flooding might be difficult for some rostered crew to turn up for work.
