Fuking moron truck drivers should have their licences suspended until they demonstrate an ability to measure the height of their vehicle.

Trains currently running 10 mins late in both directions on FG Line. Nothing on TransLinks website.

Just flipped FG - Airtrain at Bowen Hills. Something on the PA about a track fault at Fortitude Valley.

Most services using P3 & P4 at Bowen Hills.

I honestly don't know what to say....where do I start...got to hemmant @ 6.30 to catch the inbound 6.39....at 6.43 I hear the dreaded 3 pairs of beeps....announcement says train is cancelled next train approx. 40 mins.....yay..

Rang translink 6.45 they said no notifications as of yet...just a police incident causing 15 min delays @ hemmant.....ok fair enough I go with that

heres where the fun starts.....
The delayed (from police incident) outbound train pulled in and I asked guard whats going on with the cancelled inbound...he said that a train has broken down and is @ Birkdale...fair enough I now know the proper reason or at least I think I did...wait for next train...it pulls in at 7.09 (first sign on a cancelled service - 30 mins exact delay)

Ring translink at 7.15......they still haven't received notification of that cancelled service......ok
got off at park rd and asked the guard(my train) what happened with the cancelled train.....he said a driver had been called away for personal reasons ( == operational/staffing issue)

Rang translink at 7.40 and they said they were just getting notification from QR over the cancelled service......operator said it will be too late to bother putting anything up on twitter etc....

My question is did translink have to ring QR about the cancelled service that I mentioned from the earlier call?. Either way pretty poor form and highlights the lacklustre effort towards disclosing reasons for cancelled services...

This is what happens when you have:

- Multiple sources for information
- Multiple points of dissemination for information which are not coordinated

What we really need is to have a coordination centre for the whole network (plugged directly into rail network control if not actually in the same building) and for the people running TransLink's social media presence to be in the same place too.

Mechanical faults ... signal failure .... track issue.  Is the frequency of these things due to 'normal wear and tear' or are the number of fault incidents building, indicating possible neglect of maintenance, or a need to step up maintenance?  Who monitors this stuff?  What have they found?

The frequency of disruptions due to the ' signalling issues ' in particular is of concern, not only in SEQ.

The fact is as signalling went from local (signals boxes, signalmen etc) to a centralised control system the chain of circuits, track detectors. telemetry and the like is very complex.  So it only takes a minor fault in a detector, telemetry issue or whatever for the system to be rendered un-operable.  I am not sure what the level of redundancy is in the systems today as well, but seems not great.

Signalling systems do ' fail safe ' so I don't have concerns with safety as such, only reliability of the overall system.

At least the 4:39 train says that the next train departs at 5:09 not 4:54. Still very frustrating...

Mechanical reliability of trains is now of some concern. With the NGR trains introduction uncertain it is not a good situation.

Should mechanical servicing of trains be more rigorous, more frequent, more thorough, with more frequent replacement of parts etc?

I am not sure what the fleet utilisation rates are but expect very high.  I think there might have been a drop in some maintenance for trains due to be replaced by NGR - short term done, but longer term upgrades etc. not done.  This was reasonable in view of the anticipated introduction of NGR but the problem now is of course the NGR project itself is delayed.

There does seem to be a constant stream of mechanical issues - we are not told what class of train is failing. It might well be door problems through to larger issues?  QR would know, but it might take an RTI (clue  for you media) to find out.  QR have to make a lot of spare parts within their own resources due to the age of the some of the trains as well.

Can you please provide data as to number, class of train & type of fault please?

Thank you.

I *think* I read somewhere a few months ago (don't remember source, so don't take this as gospel) that all QR trainsets were in service during morning peak hour. This must make it incredibly difficult (not to mention expensive!) to undertake major maintenance overhauls as the longest time they'd ever be available is over the weekend.

As for class, I can't say definitively, but given the number of Gympie North cancellations/delays/bustitutions this year, I'd wager the ICE is high up on the list (especially considering the small # of sets).
