A positive note on this weekends track closure on the Beenleigh/Gold Coast line, QR have introduced auto announcements advising of this, heard it walking past Fairfield earlier.  Should help those who dont or cant read the signage.

Quote... It comes as hundreds of Justin Bieber's Gold Coast fans were left stranded on the side of the road at Yeerongpilly station following a police incident on a train line.

Trains headed to the Gold Coast were terminated just after 11pm, leaving hundreds of young fans sitting on Wilkie Rd at Yeerongpilly — a one-hour drive from Surfers Paradise.

Facebook user Amanda Etheredge said "when we were separated from our teens and phones were flat. Stressful! No displays or voice overs like Sydney or London. Nice that train is included in your ticket but never seems to go to plan."

Others said they paid more than $200 to Uber to the Gold Coast and weren't home until after 2am.

At midnight, TransLink officials announced they had organised buses to transport the punters out of Brisbane, but were not expected to arrive for another hour.

Taxis and Uber drivers cashed in on the stranded youngsters, many of whom were no doubt getting up for school in just a few hours.

But QR are able to do this because there are only like 5 trains during off peak; that is, if they haven't been cancelled  ;D

ozbob

It really is a massive clusterfuk sadly.

The other day, I saw a complaint that a train was delayed 10 minutes for a ticket check.

Systematic late running as for the mains or sub closures through the CBD, often means that connections are missed.

It might mean that a bus connection is missed for example, and the next service is another hour away.

I am being to think that Queensland Rail and TransLink really do not understand the impacts of this stuff.

They prattle on at CRGs, but still after all these years it remains a clusterfuk.  There is really not a customer focus as they claim.

^^ Agree Ozbob.  And QR virtually admitted this recently.  Remember they were about to instigate a process towards a new Corporate Plan, with the focus being to 'think like a customer'.  That suggests they realised they are not thinking like a customer currently.  :fo:

On the plus side, this means they delay the outbound Ipswich trains by 2 minutes, making a connection between the inbound Airport and outbound Ipswich trains possible. ;D

If you're going to run trains on two tracks in the off-peak for a fair chunk of the year, at least make a timetable which doesn't clash when you run all of the trains on the one line. There is only 18tph at worst running at that time - often less thanks to the Interim Timetables/less airport trains, and you don't have the crush loads and extended dwells like those experienced in the peaks. No reason why there should be any delays aside from incompetence.

Quote from: ozbob on March 16, 2017, 17:22:03 PMI am being to think that Queensland Rail and TransLink really do not understand the impacts of this stuff.

I think there's almost total denial that anybody actually transfers from a train to a bus anywhere in SEQ aside from on the Gold & Sunshine Coasts for interurban services.
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

I only knew becauseI checked the trip details on the app, being the first service to depart Beenleigh after three cancelled service was due to arrive. I'm guessing it ran empty from Mayne. I didn't get any notifications even though I'm subscribed to the Beenleigh line.

"Operational issue" a nice meaningless way of telling passengers they're not important enough to know the real reason behind the cancellation.

So it somehow arrived at the exact same time as the following service?  Or was one of them actually cancelled?  More evidence of the left hand (Translink) being clueless what the right hand (QR) is doing, and the right hand probably hasn't a clue either. #railfail

It's not unusual for a train delayed by 15 or 30 minutes to magically turn into the following service, especially during the peaks. I know in London it is called a re-determination, not sure what it is called in BananaLand.
